Job Description
Position Purpose:
The GIS, ASSET MANAGEMENT & WATER QUALITY INTERN role within the organization will take on projects from initiation to completion during the extent of their time with the team. The successful candidate will have visibility across many functional groups (water quality, engineering, operations, maintenance, etc.) and will continuously observe safety guidelines , follow standard operating procedures, and assist with process improvement projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who is interested in water quality and/or environmental sciences to get hands-on industry experience in municipal water, and to be introduced to different careers in the water industry.
Internships at Veolia: Gain hands-on experience in at least one career function from Corporate, Engineering, Maintenance, Manufacturing, Operations, Sales, Supply Chain or Technology.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Water Quality and Production Support: Collaborate with Production and Water Quality teams on monitoring and compliance activities, strictly adhering to established protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This may involve collecting samples at water treatment plants and external water bodies in various weather conditions, preparing samples for lab analysis, and visualizing and interpreting data.
- Asset Management and GIS Fieldwork: Assist Asset Management and GIS staff with collecting data in the field and/or at facilities. Interns will receive training on field safety, equipment handling, Veolia's Asset Management and GIS platforms, and the fundamentals of desktop GPS data processing or GIS editing. This role is highly beneficial for technical candidates interested in understanding how Asset Management and GIS support the utility industry.
- Project Execution and Communication: Execute additional tasks related to functional projects and/or process improvements. Promptly communicate any issues or roadblocks related to areas of responsibility to supervisors.
- Data Analysis and Recommendations: May be required to analyze water quality or asset management data using specialized software, generate findings, draw conclusions, and prepare both oral and written recommendations for management.

Work Environment:
- Ability to participate in fieldwork in various weather conditions.
- Ability to participate in laboratory work at water treatment plants.
- Internship will take place in multiple environments under varying conditions (weather, temperature, sound): office, field, and water treatment plants.
- Environments vary by internship function from office to field to plant.
- Our aim is to provide tangible industry job experience to each intern.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- Rising Junior, Senior, or recent graduate pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Environmental Science, Engineering, Computer Science).
- Have an interest in environmental science and water quality in an applied industry.
- Minimum of a 3.0 Cumulative G.P.A preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, listening, presentation and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships.
- Ability to use Microsoft excel and/or google sheets to analyze data.
- Be a self-starter, have attention to detail, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be an excellent communicator.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Valid Driver's License is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE); safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, hearing protection, hardhat etc.
- Ability to walk, sit, stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to carry 25 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to work on a boat.
Additional Information
Pay Range: $18.00 to $24.00 per hour.
Benefits: Interns are considered temporary employees. Medical and basic life insurance coverage is available to temporary employees scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week immediately following 60 days of service. Employees must elect or waive medical coverage within 45 days of their eligibility date. Veolia observes 11 holidays.
