Job Description

Pay Rate: $37.02 per hour.

Position Purpose: 

Inspects, maintains, repairs and installs mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic equipment at plant and/or pump stations. Is fully qualified to perform the most complex functions and may lead the work of others.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the preventive/predictive maintenance program and apply it in collaboration with management.
  • Collaborate closely with the Operations and Maintenance technicians to keep maintenance schedules and tasks up to date in accordance with laws, regulations, standards and best practices.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of maintenance strategies (preventive, predictive, etc.) on new equipment.
  • Procure parts and materials needed for asset maintenance projects.
  • Automate reports according to contractual requirements and create reports for ad hoc needs.
  • Analyze and follow up on performance indicators with the various department managers.
  • Provide training on the computerized maintenance management system (VAMS) to employees, as needed.
  • Propose solutions to optimize or increase the efficiency, performance and lifespan of equipment.
  • May assist in other areas of the plant as directed.

Work Environment:

  • Spends 100% of time in an operations environment.
  • Typically spends 25 – 35% of time exposed to outdoor and sometimes inclement weather.
  • Company service vehicles are used as required.
  • Travels 1 – 2 times per year for company provided training.
  • May serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call.
  • Possible Work Hazards: May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes, dust, toxic and caustic chemicals, noise, rotating machinery, high pressure and hot and cold temperatures, slippery surfaces, water and electrical hazards.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background: 

  • High school or GED with the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions) and be able to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • At least five years of experience in a related position in a similar environment with ability to comprehend complex specifications, blueprints and manuals.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Must consistently demonstrate the ability to perform all assigned tasks in an organized, accurate and timely manner.
  • Must demonstrate ability to efficiently maintain, install and repair any equipment which may include progressive cavity pumps, centrifuges, engines, generators, valves, bearings, seals, gates, mixers, gearboxes, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters and belt presses.
  • Must have the ability to diagnose problems regardless of complexity, troubleshoot mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic equipment and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
  • Must demonstrate a high sense of autonomy, initiative and organization.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of proactivity.
  • Must have exceptional communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate good time and priority management.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Must be familiar with reporting software as required by the site.
  • Must have computer skills, particularly excellent command of Microsoft and Google.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (commercial license and heavy equipment operator license is desirable) and a safe driving record.
  • Employee Orientation, Departmental Operating Procedures, Safety, OSHA and Quality Training.

Physical Requirements:

  • Amount of time spent – Standing 25%, Sitting 50% Walking 25%.
  • Requires close visual and hearing observation to detect non-conformance and machine malfunction.
  • Constantly uses hands to finger, handle or feel and frequently reaches with hands and arms.
  • Works in various positions; works on ladders, catwalks, and supports at heights of 50 feet above the ground; and works with hands extended above and below head and body up to 40 minutes using hand tools weighing up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds (occasionally 60 pounds) distances of 10 feet.
  • Occasional stooping, bending or kneeling and entering confined spaces.
