Barka Lf is a landfill that receives almost 3,000 tons/day of non-hazardous municipal solid waste operating 24/7 organized in day and night shifts with 30+ staff.
The landfill gas is extracted and flared; the leachate is treated in the chemical/physical treatment plant. A landfill gas-to-energy plant is going to be implemented and an End of Life Tyres (ELT) shredding plant is part of the daily activities in the landfill premises.  

Job Description

Main Accountabilities

The landfill Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations and activities at the landfill site. This includes managing daily landfilling operations, supervising 30+ staff in 2 shifts, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing budgets and costs, coordinating with local authorities and community groups, supervising the landfill cell closures, landfill gas extraction & treatment (flaring); landfill gas to energy or any other activity related, and developing policies and procedures.
 

Detailed Job Description

  • Coordinate and oversee daily waste acceptance, waste placement/compaction, earthmoving, road maintenance, litter control, heavy equipment activities, leachate treatment activities; LF gas treatment activities, LF gas to Energy activities, and any other activity in the landfill site.
  • Ensure landfill policies, procedures, and best practices are followed to maintain a safe, efficient, and compliant operation.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate landfill staff including technicians; equipment operators, maintenance crew, administrative staff, etc.
  • Track operational costs/budgets and prepare a saving plan.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions local, and country regulations including permitting, waste acceptance, environmental controls, etc.
  • Coordinate construction activities for i.e.new landfill cells and closure activities on completed cells.
  • Liaise with regulators, authorities, officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Collect and evaluate environmental monitoring data; submit regulatory reporting.
  • Follow, develop, implement, and update Standards Operations Procedures (SOPs), emergency plans, safety policies, environmental controls, and other operating procedures.
  • Lead the QHSE within the site.
  • Ensure a high level of integrity towards the client by handling the client meeting and submitting the documents on time.
  • Provide technical support to the Proposal team on new projects.
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, in environmental science or related field.
  • 10+ years experience in landfill operations, and integrated waste management systems including leachate treatment, LF gas treatment,  and LF gas to energy.
  • Solid waste management certifications.
  • Budget management skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • IOSH and/or NEBOSH certificate.
  • IT literate with experience in operational management systems.
  • Valid driving license.
