Job Description
The candidate shall act as a Sr. Data Center Commissioning Project Manager (Electrical) in the Mission Critical department of Veolia/SourceOne. Be the company representative to Mission Critical clients on multimillion-dollar time sensitive projects. Lead a team of employees, subcontractors and delegate client vendors to accomplish mission critical projects for client’s critical systems infrastructure projects, namely Data Centers, Financial Institutions and Power Plants across North America.
Main Responsibilites:
- Collaborate closely with a team of qualified professional and degreed engineers;
- Manage a team of subcontractors and client vendors on a client project by project basis;
- Set project assignments and schedules;
- Be a technical subject matter expert for complex mission critical projects;
- Develop procedures, methods and testing scripts for clients, projects, internally and externally for complex power, hydraulic and cooling systems for Data Centers, Financial Institutions and Power plants;
- Lead client meetings, schedules, issue resolutions, deficiency resolutions for projects;
- Craft proposals for client RFPs and project pricing requests;
- Assist with Veolia/SourceOne departmental budgets, KPI’s, financial planning for responsible Canadian region;
- Collate all documentation of contractors, sub-contractors, client representatives, 3rd party vendors and check for correctness and accuracy;
- Back check and ultimately accountable for the work of subcontractors on client projects;
- Any other related tasks.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Education / Experience / Background
- Sr. Commissioning Project Manager: Minimum 5 -10 years of Electrical industry knowledge; and educational experience.
- Commissioning Project Manager: Minimum 5 years of Electrical industry knowledge; Bachelor’s degree preferred but based on experience accepting Associate degree from relevant technical programs.
- Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and solving construction and operational problems, preferred 5 to 10 years experience in commissioning of complex installations.
- Demonstrated experience managing design, energy services and commissioning projects and project resources to a predetermined scope, fee and schedule.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NETA and other building codes and construction industry standards, such as ASHRAE and LEED.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Strong understanding of Mission Critical systems associated with the MEP equipment of Data Centers and Power Plant Distribution.
- Electrical: Including but not limited to High Voltage and Medium Voltage switchgear, Main Switch boards up to 5000A, Back up Generation, Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPSs), Static and Automatic Transfer systems, plus other applicable power transfer equipment ranging from 600V A.C/D.C and lower.
- Mechanical/Thermal: Including but not limited to HVAC equipment, Chiller Plants, Evaporative Cooling, CRAH’s, CRAC’s, Pumping systems, Variable Frequency Drives.
- Plant control systems such as BMS, SCADA, PLC’s, ALC and interconnecting communications protocols such as TCP/IP, Modbus, Canbus and others. Experience with wide ranging instrumentation from sensors, levels, pressures, temperatures and other instruments and devices typical of PID control loops;
- Be self-motivated and well versed in projects touching on large building MEP systems design, commissioning, retro-commissioning, energy modeling/analysis and construction for complex buildings. Assessment, optimization and/or commissioning activities for utility plants will also be expected;
- Contribute to engineering teams in the delivery of mechanical/electrical systems commissioning, energy and consulting on complex projects for local and national clients;
- Perform construction observations, review contract documents, develop functional test plans and execute tests for a wide variety of mechanical, and controls systems. Working knowledge of Life Safety systems is a plus;
- Contribute to design and energy projects for industrial, institutional and commercial clients;
- Support Development of Design documents for construction;
- Produce Commissioning and Retro-Commissioning documents;
- Great people and negotiating skills;
- Great time management and able to work under the pressures of schedule demands;
- Ability to be resourceful, and find solutions to fast paced complex problems;
- Able to think technically about Mission critical systems and verbalize for a less technical audience;
- Able to drive project expectations to conclusion;
- Be fiscally conscious of project budget;
- Be a role model of composure for direct reports under difficult client projects;
- Be a mentor for direct reports (if any) and subject matter expert for direct report growth;
- If needed, be able to interview and participate in the selection of candidates to fill direct report positions
Required Certification / Licenses / Training
- Professional Engineer licensed in the U.S or Canada, but will accept Engineer In Training or member of the professional Engineering Body, preferred but not required.
- C.E.T. or Equivalent is also acceptable if accompanied by extensive commissioning experience.
- LEED Associate preferred but not essential.
- PMP certified preferred but not essential.
- Canadian CSA Z462 Electrical Safety qualified, or U.S NFPA 70E accepted as equivalent.
- InfraRed Thermography Certified preferred.
- Computer Savvy.
Work Environment:
Permanent and full-time position, from Monday to Friday, day schedules. The ideal candidate will work remotely from Toronto, Montreal, and/or Calgary in Canada, with required travel.
- Roles require extensive local, national, and occasional international travel. Positions may require employees to be away from home on assignments between an average of 40% and up to 70% of the time, over a period of a year. Typically, Mondays and Fridays are designated travel days with Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as on site work days. Veolia allows employees to travel back on Fridays so they can spend their weekends at home, unless specifically dictated by work requirements.
- Roles may occasionally require work to be conducted outside of normal business hours to accommodate maintenance windows or weekends typical of mission critical project schedules.
- Working environment requires the employee to be in High Energy areas such as central plants, switchgear rooms and power transmission areas typical of Mission Critical environments such as Power Generation Plants and Data Centers.
