Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs all major repair work and replacement of defective parts on automobiles and other motorized equipment, such as compressors, trucks, and pumps, etc.
- The most senior Auto Mechanic must qualify for, and substitute, as Leader, as assigned.
- Must drive automotive equipment trucks and operate power equipment (including payloader and forklift as it relates to duties of the Transportation Department).
- Operates NJ emission machine.
- Prepares and submits necessary records in connection with work performed.
- Operates usual business machines.
- Performs other similar or less skilled work as assigned.
- Assists employees of a higher classification as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Incumbent needs to have the ability to read and write in English with comprehension.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Must have a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License, CDL required endorsements, and Tanker endorsement (CDL permit within 60 days, CDL license within 6 months).
- Must have certifications Auto Repair, Inspections & Emissions testing, to be obtained in 6 months by incumbents.
- Must have State Inspector and Brake Certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Incumbent needs the ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Must have the mobility to crawl.
- Incumbent needs the audio capability to hear engines with a corrective device.
- Non-rotational shift work required.
