Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Plant Manager will be responsible for an operations and maintenance contract at a Central Utility Plant located at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) including a staff of four people and will be the primary interface with the university staff. Candidates should have at least ten years of experience and a mechanical background.

Qualifications

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Insure safe and reliable operation of the Central Utility Plant.
2. Communicate effectively with the client, site staff, management, vendors, and outside agencies. Reports directly to the regional VP of Operations.
3. Demonstrate effective management skills in meeting or exceeding facility goals and objectives.
4. Responsible for the enforcement of and compliance with the Operations and Maintenance Agreement.
5. Prepare and submit to the client, in a timely manner, all reports and information required under the terms of the O&M contract.
6. Provide recommendations to management and the client on plant upgrades and enhancements that would improve the reliability, Efficiency, performance, safety, or environmental readiness of the plant. The recommendations should include a cost benefit analysis.
7. Oversee the planning and implementation of maintenance and outage activities. Provide outage reports to management and client summarizing significant events of the outage.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education / Experience / Background

● Four year technical degree or equivalent level experience
● Demonstrated track record of successful achievement in a plant environment
● A minimum of ten years mechanical experience in plant environment or building facilities management
● Experience and strong skills in working with non-technical clients
● Strong management skills of union employees

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

● A working knowledge of engineering principles and chemistry as it relates to plant operations as well as environmental and water treatment programs and statutory regulations.
● Develop and manage capital and operating budgets, bid proposals, contract evaluation, basic accounting principles and plant economics.
● Demonstrate the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
● Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, and technical manuals.
● Strong interpersonal skills

● Ability to solve practical problems, clearly communicate tasks and needs, and training of other
personnel, and strong multi-tasking skills
● Analyzes and interprets data to make sound professional judgments and recommendations
● Ability to manage and motivate subordinates
● Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

● Massachusetts 2 nd Class Engineer’s operating license
