Job Description
Role
Under the direction of the Eastern Manager the Fleet Manager is responsible for optimizing systems related to fleet, shipping and forecasting. The Fleet Manager is the dedicated liaison between Fleet and the rest of Chit Chats, providing the support, training and guidance required to align the department with the vision and goals of the organization.
Responsibilities
Leadership
Oversee the management, communication, training and ongoing development of all drivers, and related vendors
Regularly communicate with Leadership and Operations team to ensure alignment of goals, project progression and timely delivery
Lead and support the team in proactively developing, documenting, implementing and optimizing policies and processes.
Recommend and implement technology and processes to monitor logistics, analytics, reporting, performance of the system and the team
Maintain relevant and timely statistics and other measurements as required.
Represent the Fleet department during inter-departmental meetings and planning sessions.
Implement framework for, and conduct regular quality checks of, processes including packing, consolidation, transportation and receipt of goods
Shipping, Receiving & Fleet Management
Responsible for movement of all domestic, U.S., international and return shipments
Analyze, optimize and coordinate cost-effective methods of transportation and logistics to fulfill the needs of clients and physical branch locations in all our locations across Canada
Continually analyze shipping and receiving procedures to improve efficiency and eliminate waste, and to quickly resolve issues as they arise.
Oversee client pick-ups and plan efficient and timely routes, recommend transportation modes and equipment
Negotiate purchases and lease of vehicles, and maintain foster cost-effective relationships with mechanics to ensure a safe fleet, at the greatest value
Provide excellent client support to current and potential pick-up clients, including during the onboarding process
Regulatory Compliance & Paperwork
Serve as the authority for regulatory requirements related to vehicles, fuel, licensing, legislation and environment, educating the team and leadership as required.
Ensure all personnel operating fleet vehicles do so according to all traffic laws and company policy
Oversee maintenance of fleet and related equipment
Coordinate with the compliance department to ensure customs compliance of all cross-border clearance with both CBP and CBSA
Follow and ensure compliance with company health and safety policies
Carrier & Freight Services Relations
Liaise and communicate with carriers and designated drop spot locations for daily pick ups and build and maintain productive and effective relationships
Ensure preparation of carrier-related documentation including shipment control forms and bills of lading
Develop and administer procedures for external courier and freight services and determines most effective delivery option for goods
Suggest and work with selected freight forwarders, vehicle rental companies and couriers when necessary, negotiating rates and contracts for best price and service
Work with accounting department to provide shipping and freight forwarding quotes
Qualifications
5+ Years relevant experience and educational background in Transportation, Supply Chain Management, and Client Support
Expertise in technology and software in support of logistics and fleet management
Deep understanding of rules and regulations of cross-border shipping and ability to assist in resolving any issues that might arise in the process
Strong working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Excellent analytical, problem solving, planning and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects in a dynamic fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and professionally.
Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrable ability to lead and manage staff
Proactive team player who is willing to help develop the team, processes and protocols
Additional Information
Some travel within Canada is required; regular travel within the province is required.
Class 1 safety shoes required (green triangle patch).
