Job Description

As a member of the Mechanical Hardware team, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of new mechanical components, products, and assemblies. You will be involved in every stage of the product lifecycle, from early conceptual design and prototyping to creating fully functional and tested products ready for deployment. This role will have a particular focus on the development of productized applications for turnkey deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Development: Lead the creation of innovative mechanical designs, focusing on new components, products, and assemblies that meet productized application needs.

  • Prototyping & Testing: Develop prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to ensure product functionality and reliability.

  • Product Support: Provide internal support for your designs through detailed documentation, training of colleagues, and troubleshooting.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate your designs into the broader product ecosystem.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Platform Development: Contribute to the evolution of Vention's 3D Machine Builder and e-Commerce platform, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical components. Additionally, the Mechanical Engineering team is responsible for documentation of technical specifications and communication of that information through the website.

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the Team Lead of Hardware Engineering, you will:

  • Actively contribute to the product roadmap and participate in all product development phases, such as: scoping, design, validation, product integration, and product launch.

  • Work with different multidisciplinary teams to develop mechanical, and electro-mechanical products.

  • Collaborate with program and product managers to gather product requirements and summarize it in scoping documents.

  • Design mechanical systems, mechanisms and select mechanical components such as structural elements, linear and rotary actuators, pneumatic components, etc. to fulfill the requirements determined by the product team.

  • Participate in the development of different applications in collaboration with the Application R&D group.

  • Lead and participate in design reviews and brainstorming.

  • Work with purchasing, quality, and production departments to ensure a successful launch of new products as well as support of products already in production.

  • Validate, integrate, and configure parts from selected manufacturers, ensuring compatibility with the rest of the platform and compliance with Vention standards.

  • Perform validation and reliability testing of the products.

  • Contribute to the progress of the Machine Builder online 3D platform by adding content, suggesting new features, and reporting any errors.

  • Create technical documentation related to new products added to the Vention library.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electromechanical engineering.

  • Recognized for their leadership and capacity to execute, work in team with strong analysis skill and rigor.

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in industrial mechanical design (automated equipment, conveyors, actuators, structure, robotics, etc.).

  • Work experience in multidisciplinary design projects.

  • Knowledge in electromechanical and pneumatic equipment (sensors, motors, cylinders, etc.).

  • Good knowledge of mechanical design standards and tolerancing, while communicating them effectively on technical drawings.

  • Experienced user of Solidworks, CAD and FEA

  • Experience using PLM/PDM software for check in/check out process and revision management is an asset.

  • Experience in manufacturing process and DFx (machining, molding, casting, forging) for metals and plastic components.

  • Knowledge of reliability and validation testing and root cause analysis.

  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec is a strong asset.

  • Familiarity with programming language such as Python and LabView is an asset.

  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing with ease in French and English.
