Job Description

Shape the future of energy innovation

At Vector, we’re reimagining the future of energy in Aotearoa through our Symphony Strategy—combining world-class software engineering, cloud-native thinking, and global partnerships with leaders like AWS. As our next Software Engineering Graduate, you’ll work on meaningful, real-world projects that help create a smarter, cleaner, and more resilient energy system.

Where software engineering meets purpose: your graduate experience

Our graduate programme is designed for aspiring software engineers who want to make a real impact. You’ll gain hands-on experience, grow your skills in a collaborative environment, and be supported by experts who are passionate about solving complex problems with technology. From day one, you’ll be empowered to contribute, learn fast, and build a strong foundation for a future-focused career.

What makes our programme unique:

Full stack, real product ownership

You’ll build software end-to-end—from backend services to front-end interfaces—with full visibility into how your code creates real-world impact. We don’t silo roles; you’ll get the opportunity to own and ship real features.

Peer learning that scales fast

Through pair programming, you’ll ramp up quickly, build confidence, and develop deep technical capability in a supportive environment. Many of our past grads have already progressed into Tech Lead or Senior roles.

Innovation that matters

Join a team that trials AI technologies before public release and pushes the boundaries of cloud-native architecture. You’ll be part of a culture that’s not afraid to experiment—and always focused on real outcomes.

Cloud-native from day one

We’re the only energy business in the world running ADMS in the cloud. Our teams work across full CI/CD pipelines using modern DevOps practices and cloud platforms, primarily AWS.

Support to grow

You’ll get personalised mentoring, regular feedback, and bi-annual salary reviews—everything you need to accelerate your growth as a software engineering professional.

Inclusive graduate community

Be part of a diverse, welcoming cohort that values fresh perspectives, celebrates difference, and supports your development as both a teammate and a future leader.

Modern ways of working

Work from our hybrid Newmarket office, complete with collaboration spaces, wellness initiatives, and free barista coffee.

What a week could look like:

• Building and refining cloud-native applications using CI/CD pipelines

• Pair programming with engineers to ship production code

• Experimenting with emerging AWS services or unreleased AI features

• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve real business challenges

• Designing backend APIs and integrating them into responsive front-end interfaces

• Participating in architecture reviews, stand-ups, and team demos

• Owning your work from idea to deployment—and learning from what you ship

Who we’re looking for:

You’re curious, collaborative, and ready to learn. You bring:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

• Experience from internships, personal projects, or research that shows practical application of your skills

• Object-oriented programming experience (Java, C#, or similar)

• Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure (a bonus, not a must)

• A strong problem-solving mindset and willingness to work across the stack

• Great communication skills and a team-first attitude—you’re here to build with others, not in isolation

Your development path:

• Structured team rotations across Vector that is driven by your career ambitions

• Mentoring, coaching, and regular career conversations

• Real-world software development from day one

• Growth in technical skills, leadership potential, and commercial understanding
