About the role
Join our modern, technology focused control room where teamwork is encouraged and thrives.  We are creating the control room of the future, upgrading and developing new technology systems that will make this a state-of-the-art environment. Be part of this exciting transformation project.

You will operate in more than just a “desk shift” environment with opportunities to become involved in carrying out studies for equipment release and switching scheduling.

In a role offering variety and challenge you will monitor and control the network, initiate fault restoration and emergency response, develop operational effectiveness initiatives, take part in contingency planning and provide technical and operational support. The shift working system is second to none and designed to provide variety for this role.
Key duties include:

  • To monitor and control the real time operation of the electricity network to ensure a safe, reliable, secure and continuous supply to our customers.
  • Initiate fault restoration and emergency response
  • Authorise and control field maintenance outages and operational activities 
  • Contingency planning
  • Technical and operational support
  • System performance reporting

Who we are looking for
To be successful in this role you will need sharp analytical and great communication skills. Combined this with the ability to maintain composure and make sound decisions in a timely manner during times of pressure.

In addition, you will Ideally have some of the following skills and experience:

  • 5 years’ technical experience in electricity distribution network or in an industrial/commercial setting.  
  • An inherent belief in the importance of high standards of Health and Safety.
     
  • An ability to work shifts in a 24 hour, 7-day week environment is essential, once fully trained
  • High literacy skills
  • Experience using SCADA or an ADMS would be an advantage, as would time spent in a electricity distribution network control room.
