Job Description

This role is responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of the designated tapping area during a shift, ensuring the safe and effective tapping of matte and slag from the furnace. The incumbent provides leadership and coordination of the granulation process, ensuring compliance with operational, safety, and quality standards while maximizing productivity and process efficiency.

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Follow work instructions and work orders
  • Ensure proper understanding of the required actions
  • Apply recognized work and safety standards and procedures
  • Ensure that tasks are completed to required quality standards
  • Conducts daily inspections on Tapping section related equipment to ensure functionality
  • Ensure that the areas around Tapping are clean and well
  • Effective operation of the Tapping section to agreed business plan and process parameters (quantity and quality).
  • Assists the Tapping Supervisor with the overall operation of the Tapping section.
  • Basic Plant Operation Process
  • Identify to the Shift Foreperson  any unexpected problems
  • Support efforts to overcome operational problems
  • Identify risks and threats to the process proactively
  • Identify actions that could prevent or improve safety and work performance within standards

Qualifications

  • 5 ‘O’ Levels.
  • 10 years experience in PGM or Base Metal matte smelting and tapping
  • NEC Plant Operator Certificate  is an added advantage
  • Passed  Tapping Procedures
  • Physical requirements: Fitness Certificate
