Job Description
The Occupational Hygiene Assistant is responsible for assisting the Occupational Hygienist in maintaining Occupational Hygiene programmes and provide his / her immediate supervisor with information and to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
In addition, this role is also responsible for occupational hygiene (incl. public health) and environmental incident identification and investigation; assisting with environmental impact assessments as required; assisting with sampling and interpretation of occupational hygiene exposure; and assisting with health and environmental awareness and training.
- Ensure that legal requirement, group standard and policies are adhered to
- Conduct risk assessments, occupational hygiene (incl. public health) & environmental measurements and participate in audits
- Conduct daily occupational hygiene & environmental inspections and record findings
- Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions related to occupational hygiene & environmental incidents and measurements
- Contribute to the achievement of the SHE objectives and targets of the Operation
- Maintains a high quality of work
- Report on at-risk behavior, incidents and injuries
- Interacting with other departments
This role is in the Occupational Hygiene Department and is a C2 level reporting to the Occupational Hygienist.
Qualifications
Qualifications Section
- Grade 12 (Mathematics & Physical Science); or Technical Trade Specific N2
- Minerals Council practical certificate in Mine Environmental Control
- Studying towards intermediate certificate in mine environmental control, or environmental management degree or diploma, or degree or diploma in Occupational Hygiene/Public Health
- Advantageous: Occupational Hygiene Assistant Registration with the South African Institute of Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH)
Experience:
- at least 2 years in the Mining and / or Refining environment of which Practical experience of at least 1 year in the Occupational Hygiene or environmental management or health field
Technical Skills
- Must be familiar with risk assessments procedures
- Valid driving license
Computer literacy in MS Office, SAP, and other specialised technical programs
