Job Description

The Assistant Director of Human Resources is responsible for supporting the resolution of employee relations issues, supporting the development of recruiting strategies for the organization, supporting the implementation of DEI initiatives, and assisting HR Director and supervisors through employee performance and discipline issues.  They work closely with the Director of Human Resources on cultivating a positive employee experience, policy development and automation, compliance, and the maintenance of HR metrics.  All the duties and responsibilities of this position must be carried out with the highest level of confidentiality, organization, and attention to detail.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Support in the resolution of employee relations issues
  • Support with implementing automation for department processes and policies
  • Assist the HR Director in ensuring compliance needs are met
  • Develop and maintain HR metrics
  • Support in the implementation of DEI initiatives
  • Meet with staff and provide the HR Director support in the guidance on employment-related issues, concerns, and policy questions.
  • Support the HR Director in advising and assisting supervisors on handling performance concerns and discipline issues. 
  • Support HR department and company employees as needed

  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures including those stated in the VFES Policies & Procedures manual and additional verbal and written communications provided to staff members
  • Assist with recruitment as needed
  • Maintain a professional, confidential, and ethical relationship with administrators, colleagues, parents, students, and others at all times.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service activities, and other meetings as required
  • Remain educationally informed in all related areas including PDE regulations through continued professional study and attending workshops and conferences.
  • Perform related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • Current PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP ceritication preferred
  • Five to seven years of general human resources experience, preferably in a non-profit and/or educational setting.  Experience should include: HR policy implementation, knowledge of compliance, DEI administration, recruitment, employee relations, and employee administration.
  • Knowledge of employment law, background clearance requirements, teacher certification processes and PA Department of Education regulations (Acts 34, 114, 151 & 168).
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Must be an effective communicator and team player with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Able to organize and prioritize work effectively, manage multiple tasks, perform work with a high degree of accuracy, and maintain sensitive, confidential information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (staff members, administrators, board members and others) in all situations.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the work process.
