Job Description
FIRE YOUR BOSS AND COME WORK FOR US! We are looking for someone to join our Procurement team as a Buyer. You will have the opportunity to work one day a week hybrid. You will be responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the company's needs for indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services, while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to VEI’s policies and procedures.

- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and freight charges for current raw materials.
- Place Purchase Orders for ingredients and packaging as required by the MRP report.
- Update price changes for ingredients and packaging in ERP System once approved by Upper Management.
- Fill in for another Buyer(s) as needed.
- Communicate issues with material shortages to all necessary departments.
- Meet with suppliers for face-to-face negotiations.
- Assist QC and R&D Departments obtain required documentation on raw materials and components.
- Work with supply chain personnel on the return of obsolete and/or out of specification products.
- Execute Purchase orders for other departments from approved Purchase Requisitions
- Work with A/P on price/QTY/ split order Discrepancies.
- Work with Suppliers and Freight Carriers to combine LTL shipments.
- Interaction daily with Suppliers on missing documents, shipment delays, and customer requirements.
- Provide Procurement and/or Scheduling with concerns/ updates/ inquiries daily.
- Work with Receiving Department to research and provide direction when paperwork is inconsistent.
- Comply with all safety and SOP procedures.
- Adhere to VEI Attendance Policy.
Non- Essential Functions:
- Assist with the R&D department for sample requests of raw materials.
- Assist in training new employees in the Procurement department.
- Assist sourcing new raw materials and components for R&D.
- Assist sourcing better options for current raw materials and components: lower cost/ shorter lead time/ lower freight/ better quality.
You must be available to work at least 4 days of the 5 in the office.
Qualifications
Required Education, Experience and Skills
- 2+ years’ experience manufacturing exp.in purchasing, utilizing buying methods and tactics.
- Experience using a computer to complete computerized system transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Proficient in the use of ERP/MRP systems
- Proficient of Microsoft Office (specifically Excel & Outlook)
- Must have intermediate knowledge and skill adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing multiple cells of an Excel worksheet.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, Purchasing, or Supply Chain
- Experience in a cGMP environment preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge and experience using pivot tables in Excel.
- APICS training and / or Purchasing certification a plus.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Comprehension and expression of a level to routinely draft narrative information, compose routine correspondence on own initiative, make comprehensive notes. May involve a large volume of such composition.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee will occasionally, lift up to 15 pounds, carry up to 45 pounds, reach over shoulder, stand, kneel, repeatedly bend, climb using legs only, and have acute vision. Employee will frequently use fingers and both hands which may be compensated using an acceptable prostheses, have extended sitting, walking, have the ability for rapid mental or well-developed coordination simultaneously, peripheral vision, depth vision, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades, smell and have routine hearing ability. Employee will continuously have reading with attention to detail and seeing activities near and far.
Environmental Factors: Employee will occasionally be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, solvents, slippery or uneven walk, working around machinery with moving parts, working with sharp instruments, cleaning supplies/abrasives, working irregular hours, be exposed to vibration and work alone. Employee will frequently work with others and continuously work in an inside environment.
