Job Description

Students have a wide range of special educational needs, including global delay, challenging behaviours, autistic spectrum disorder, Aspergers, Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy and specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia and specific language impairment (SLI). Our staff consists of teachers, assistants, speech therapists, occupational therapists, specialist literacy teachers and educational and counselling psychologists.


We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our team. We are looking for a therapist who has a level of experience providing OT services to children with special needs. Ideally you will have experience in interventions such as Sensory Integration and behavior management. You will need to liaise closely with other staff and parents, offer training to others (as needed) and will contribute to learning plans and school reports.


JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Assess and identify individual needs of students within the school, with respect to various occupational therapy issues.
  • Complete written reports following assessments, and recommendations for teachers, parents and care givers where required.
  • Develop appropriate intervention plans and provide therapy to address their needs.
  • Formulate SMART targets each term and review these regularly.
  • Formulate term reports and session notes.
  • Provide support and education to classroom staff, parents and care givers including modelling and guidance in the implementation of recommendations to enhance participation and independence.
  • Provide professional development to staff of the school and the external community as requested/appropriate.
  • Attend parent-teacher and staff meetings.
  • Be responsible for caseload management and timetabling.

Qualifications

  • Recognized degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Good team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of energy, enthusiasm and commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children, to enable them to lead an inclusive life with the school and in their community.
  • Relevant clinical experience and/or knowledge in the area of paediatric practice and special needs.
