Workplace Practice Tutor Assistant / Assessor (Online)
Location: Fully remote - anywhere in NZ  
Part-time | Fixed-term | Remote

Note: this is a fixed-term opportunity ending 31 March 2027, on a part-time basis working 20 hours per week. Work is fully remote so we are open to applicants from anywhere in NZ.   

About the role:

New Zealand School of Tourism (NZST) is seeking an experienced and learner-focused Workplace Practice Tutor / Assessor to support the online delivery of our workplace practice course for Level 5 Diploma in Tourism & Travel Management (TTM) programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive online learning environment, helping learners succeed through quality assessment, academic guidance, and ongoing pastoral support.

You will be responsible for assessing learner work, providing meaningful feedback, monitoring learner engagement and supporting students throughout their academic journey on their last course for the Level 5 Diploma in Tourism & Travel Management (TTM) programme. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess learner work in line with approved marking guides, rubrics, and grade descriptors.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and support learners with assessment and course-related queries.
  • Manage assessment administration, including Turnitin submissions, similarity reports, resubmissions, learner records, and required documentation.
  • Monitor learner engagement, attendance, and participation, providing proactive support to learners who may be at risk of disengaging.
  • Respond promptly to learner enquiries and communicate effectively with learners, tutors, team leaders, and support teams.
  • Monitor and manage academic integrity matters, including AI-flagged assessments and other integrity concerns.
  • Identify opportunities to improve learning materials and assessments, contributing to quality assurance and programme improvement initiatives.
  • Provide additional support and cover during periods of annual or sick leave, where required.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Experience teaching, tutoring, training, assessing, or providing learner support within a tertiary education environment.
  • Industry experience in tourism, travel, hospitality, or a closely related field.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and support learners throughout their academic journey.
  • Confidence using online learning platforms and digital tools.
  • A learner-centred approach, with a strong commitment to academic quality, learner success, and continuous improvement.
