Visiting Lecturer / Placement Assessor
Location: Taranaki/New Plymouth
Independent Contractor | Hybrid
The role will be hybrid working between schools within your assigned region and home.
About the role
New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) is seeking experienced Early Childhood Education professionals to provide Visiting Lecturer and Placement Assessor services within the Taranaki region.
This independent contractor engagement is suited to experienced ECE practitioners who are confident working autonomously, building professional relationships with education providers, and assessing student teachers undertaking professional practice placements.
The engagement combines site-based visits within your assigned region with remote administration and reporting activities. It has been established to support NZTC students in regions where NZTC does not currently have employed lecturers.
As a Visiting Lecturer / Placement Assessor, you will provide professional assessment and placement support services that contribute to the development of future early childhood educators while ensuring alignment with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand requirements and NZTC's professional practice standards.
Scope of Services
Contractors will be engaged to:
- Prepare and support student teachers as they transition into professional practice placements
- Conduct placement visits and observations within early childhood education settings
- Assess and document student performance using NZTC's approved assessment processes
- Provide constructive, evidence-based feedback to student teachers and Associate Teachers
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with centre managers and Associate Teachers
- Complete required documentation and reporting within agreed timeframes
- Uphold NZTC's professional, ethical, and academic standards throughout the engagement
Work is allocated based on student placement requirements within the region.
Qualifications
About you:
You are a passionate and professional educator who values quality teaching practice and enjoys mentoring the next generation of early childhood teachers. You bring a balance of academic understanding, practical ECE experience, and a strong commitment to professional integrity.
To be considered for this engagement, you will have:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in Early Childhood Education (Bachelor's degree or higher)
- A current practising certificate issued by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand
- At least 3–5 years' professional experience within early childhood education settings
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and professional judgement skills
- An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori and Pasifika perspectives, and inclusive practice
- The ability to manage workload independently, coordinate regional visits, and complete documentation efficiently
- A full driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle

This opportunity is offered on an independent contractor basis.
Contractors engaged by NZTC are expected to:
- Manage their own workflow and scheduling arrangements
- Travel within their assigned region to complete placement visits
- Use their own equipment and resources
- Invoice for services provided
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times
This engagement is best suited to professionals who are comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and building strong relationships across the early childhood education sector.
