Director of Academic Delivery (Kaihautū Ako) 
Location: Auckland
Full-time | Permanent | Hybrid 

About the Role

The Director of Academic Delivery (Kaihautū Ako) is responsible for leading NZTC’s teaching workforce and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality adult education programmes. You will provide both strategic and operational leadership across programme delivery, working closely with Programme Leaders, kaiako (lecturers), and academic teams to strengthen teaching quality, learner outcomes, and academic integrity.

This role will lead the implementation of NZTC’s evolving academic delivery model, ensuring alignment with NZQA requirements, adult learning best practice, and NZTC’s commitment to ākonga success. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide operational leadership across NZTC’s academic delivery, including Programme Leaders and kaiako 

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality teaching and learning experiences across all programmes 

  • Lead the implementation of NZTC’s academic delivery framework and workforce model 

  • Embed effective adult learning (ako pakeke) and culturally responsive teaching practices 

  • Oversee academic quality, including assessment integrity and moderation processes 

  • Strengthen academic capability through mentoring, professional development, and teaching observation 

  • Monitor and improve learner outcomes, including retention, completion, and satisfaction 

  • Lead academic staff through organisational change and delivery transformation

Qualifications

About You 

We are seeking an experienced and strategic academic leader to join our senior leadership team. This pivotal role will lead the transformation and delivery of NZTC’s academic programmes, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment. 

You are a confident and values-driven academic leader with experience in the New Zealand tertiary education sector. You bring a strong understanding of quality assurance, teaching excellence, and leading people through change. 

You will have: 

  • Proven senior leadership experience in tertiary education 

  • A postgraduate qualification (master’s or higher) 

  • Strong knowledge of NZQA, NZQF, and academic quality systems 

  • Expertise in adult learning and programme delivery (including online/blended models) 

  • Experience leading academic teams and implementing change 

  • A full driver licence and the ability to travel nationally 

Ideally, you will also have: 

  • Experience in delivery of online teaching and learning. 

  • Experience in early childhood or teacher education 

  • Experience working with diverse and international learner cohorts
