About the role:

Plumbing Tutor
Location: NZMA Auckland Trades Campus
Full-time | Fixed-term | On-Site 

This is full-time fixed-term role from February to December 2026.  

As a Plumbing Tutor at NZMA, you’ll guide leaners through a practical, hands-on pre-apprenticeship programme preparing them for careers in plumbing, gas fitting, and drain laying. Working from our purpose-built Trades campus, you’ll bring your industry knowledge to life through a mix of workshop demonstrations, classroom sessions, and real-world projects.

You’ll guide students as they build confidence and develop essential skills and knowledge to succeed within the workforce.  This role offers the opportunity to apply your expertise in a dynamic teaching environment while shaping the next generation of tradies.

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging facilitation in both workshops and classrooms
  • Support learners with pastoral care, attendance, and academic success
  • Teach core pre-apprenticeship skills: plumbing systems, gar theory, health and safety, plans, regulations, installation skills, soldering, welding, brazing and more
  • Assist students in developing literacy, numeracy and employability skills
  • Maintain compliance with NZMA policies, assessment guidelines, and safety standards
  • Contribute to resource development and programme improvement

Qualifications

About you:

We’re looking for a skilled and experience Plumber who takes pride in their work and enjoys sharing their knowledge with others. You can break down complex tasks into easy-to-understand steps, communicate clearly, and guide learners as they grow in confidence and capability. You value professionalism, enjoy collaborating with others, and are ready to bring your industry expertise into a teaching environment where it can have a meaningful impact.

  • A current PGD practicing license holder with strong, up-to-date industry knowledge
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand plumbing standards, codes, and everyday compliance requirements
  • Show consistent, safe work habits and model the level of professionalism expected on-site
  • Clear and confident communicator who can connect well with others
  • Confidence working with diverse groups and maintaining learner motivation
  •  Mentoring or teaching experience is desirable but not essential
  • Experience mentoring and supporting young people is desirable but not essential
