International Student Compliance Officer
Location: Auckland CBD
Full-time | Permanent | On-Site
About the role:
The International Student Compliance Officer is responsible for providing oversight and assurance over international enrolment compliance, immigration/visas, regulatory obligations, and internal control effectiveness across UP Education New Zealand providers delivering programmes to international students.
The role ensures the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and student-centred support services for international students, while safeguarding regulatory standing, commercial integrity, and institutional reputation. The position plays a key role in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and fully compliant environment for international learners.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
Assisting with enrolment documentation reviews, visa compliance processes, and data integrity within student management systems
Ensuring organisational compliance with Immigration New Zealand, NZQA, TEC, Ministry of Education, and Education Code obligations
Identifying, escalating, and overseeing remediation of compliance risks, control weaknesses, and audit findings related to international students
Undertaking governance, risk, and assurance activities related to the education sector including maintaining risk registers and presenting risk insights to senior leadership and governance bodies
Translating relevant immigration and education regulatory requirements into practical, scalable operational processes and group-wide policies
Undertaking structured audit schedules and tracking corrective action plans within defined timeframes
Delivering regulatory training and capability development initiatives across the organisation
Monitoring key risk indicators and compliance performance metrics across international enrolments
Promoting strong, collaborative engagement with university partners while maintaining governance independence
Qualifications
About you:
You are an experienced international student compliance professional or immigration professional with a strong understanding of the regulatory environment supporting international education in New Zealand. You bring a proactive and analytical approach to governance, risk, and assurance, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical processes that support operational teams. You are highly organised, detail-oriented, and motivated to strengthen compliance frameworks that support both regulatory integrity and positive student outcomes.
Key Skills & Experience:
Current Licensed Immigration Adviser (LIA) or currently in the process of obtaining licensing
Proven experience in education/student compliance/governance/risk management, or international education, ideally within a multi-provider or complex education organisation environment.
Strong knowledge of NZQA, TEC, Immigration New Zealand, Ministry of Education, and Education (Pastoral Care) Code requirements.
Ability to identify, assess, and escalate student compliance risks, and track remediation actions.
Experience working with internal control frameworks, risk registers, and compliance monitoring systems.
Experience using student management systems and technology tools to support compliance monitoring and reporting.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and advise operational teams.
