Job Description

The hybrid working schedule consists of in-office presence on an as needed basis at our Linthicum location. 

General Summary

Provide leadership, coordination and administration for a portfolio of medical and surgical contracts, programs and services. Negotiate and implement purchase agreements encompassing all aspects of medical and surgical group purchasing including contracting for equipment, supplies, equipment service, contracted services, and related distribution and general services. Efforts are focused on maximizing quality and service while achieving standardization, cost control and performance improvement. The University of Maryland Medical System operates hospitals, physician practices, outpatient clinics, health plans, and related health and human services within the state of Maryland Its members include 11 hospitals providing nearly 2,200 licensed beds with an overall annual supply expense of $800 million.

5+ years of experience with healthcare contracts is highly preferred. 

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Develops, negotiates, and manages a Support Services portfolio of national group purchasing contracts focusing on maximizing service and quality, minimizing cost, and integrating department goals with system objectives related to the acquisition of products and services.
  • Coordinates the system-wide effort to identify Support Services contracting opportunities for cost efficiency and performance improvement.
  • Works collaboratively with the hospital resource teams to execute contracts based on clinical and cost management needs.
  • Communicates with the hospital management to coordinate the implementation of Support Services contracts and the management of resulting savings and revenue.
  • Conducts quarterly or semi-annual business reviews as appropriate with vendor partners on existing contracts.
  • Performs all work in accordance with the mission and values of UMMS.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field, or an equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in a progressively responsible professional purchasing and/or contracting environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven contract negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency with business software tools including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Financial acumen coupled with detail orientation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Strong skills in consensus building.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
