The University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) with a desire to join our premier multidisciplinary team in our high acuity, 24 bed Surgical ICU.

The SICU provides care for critically ill surgical patients who require the highest level of medical support available at UMMC. The SICU’s patient population includes patients admitted by UMMC surgical service lines including, but not limited to, Acute Care Emergency Surgery, Transplant Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Otolaryngology, Surgical Oncology, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Surgical OB-GYN, Thoracic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Genitourinary Surgery, and Plastic Surgery. Common diagnosis and surgeries include endovascular and open repairs of abdominal, thoracoabdominal, and thoracic aortic aneurysms; pancreatitis and various bowel surgeries; liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants; and oral and maxillofacial reconstruction surgery utilizing free flaps and bone grafts.

 Admission criteria include, but are not limited to, frequent monitoring and surgical-specific assessments, ventilatory support (mechanical ventilation, proning, etc), hemodynamic monitoring including titration of continuous infusions (vasoactives, paralytics, sedatives, etc.) and massive resuscitation, including multiple blood transfusion requirements.  Common invasive and non-invasive technology we use consists of the EV1000, Hemosphere, Train of Four, Blood Warmers, Cortrak, Ultrasounds and Accuvein.  We also offer ultrasound competency to place peripheral IVs and manage the care for patients requiring continuous renal replacement therapy.

Qualifications

Recent or current experience on SICU at UMMC as RN for minimum of 1 yr required

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred;

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to compact state requirements outlined by the Maryland Board of Nursing
