Job Description

Site: Toronto General Hospital
Department: Endoscopy
Reports to: Nurse Manager
Wage Range: $37.33 - $38.16 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements)
Hours: 15-22.5 Hours per Week
Shifts: Days
Status: Temporary Part-Time (End Date ~ March 31, 2026)
Closing Date: September 3, 2026
Duties:
- Demonstrates strong assessment and observation skills
- Applies comprehensive knowledge of Gastrointestinal and Respirology procedures, including sedation practices
- Provides effective patient education using excellent communication skills
- Adheres to infection prevention and control best practices
- Maintains proficiency in electronic health records systems (e.g., Epic)
- Collaborates effectively with interprofessional teams while working independently when required
- Delivers safe and competent pre- and post-procedural care within the RPN Scope of Practice
- Provides procedural support within endoscopy procedural cases requiring 2 nurses, including room preparation and turnover
- Assists interprofessional team by circulating between rooms to assist with supplies and device operations
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to procedural complications
- Participates actively in professional, program, and hospital-wide initiatives
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by adhering to hospital plans, policies, procedures, and safety responsibilities
- Pursues lifelong professional learning through ongoing education and development activities to meet patient care needs and uphold professional standards
Qualifications
- Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario (General Certificate) and member in good standing, required
- Diploma preparation as an RPN in a recognized education program for Nursing preferred
- Operating room circulating nurse experience preferred
- Ambulatory day surgery experience and surgical admission experience preferred
- Coronary Care I certification preferred
- Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
- Well developed conceptual and theoretical understanding of nursing concepts as they relate to patient population and an ability to articulate these concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and monitor clinical status and intervene appropriately with changes in clinical status, required
- Well developed clinical decision -making skills that reflect patient centeredness, problem solving and critical thinking
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
- Interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job – standing for long periods of time and ability to wear lead apron
- Ability to work under pressure
