Wage Range: $41.15 - $58.98 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements)

Job Summary
As a member of the UHN and the nursing multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse (RN) practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.
This temporary, full-time contract RN role will provide nursing services within several clinical areas within UHN’s Mental Health Program. The RN will typically provide 3 days/week support to the Substance Use Services (SUS) team and 2 days/week to the IMPACT team.
As a member of the SUS team, the RN will primarily support the Substance Use Intervention Team (SUIT), an addiction medicine consult service that supports patients who use substances across UHN. As part of SUIT, the RN will work alongside an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioners, community health workers, and care managers to provide holistic care to patients who use substances, as well as to bolster substance use healthcare skills and capacity among staff across UHN. At times, the RN may also provide nursing care within Toronto Western Hospital’s Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) service and Injection Clinic as needed.
As a member of IMPACT, the RN will be part of an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program that provides team treatment, psychosocial rehabilitation, and support in the community to adults with severe and persistent mental illness and a diagnosis of a primary psychotic disorder. Its interdisciplinary team includes Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Community Mental Health Workers, Peer Support Workers, Psychiatric Residents, as well as students from different disciplines. IMPACT strives to minimize the impact of mental illness on clients’ lives by facilitating the integration of clients into communities of their choice and supporting them to improve the quality of their lives in the areas of health, housing, finance, and vocation.
Duties
- Applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN;
- Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure
- Demonstrating commitment to professional lifelong learning by participating in continuing education activities to meet the needs of the patient population served and the standards of the profession;
- Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care;
- Performing cross-functional and other responsibilities, as assigned and/or requested.
Qualifications
- Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in mental health and/or addiction nursing required
- Excellent substance use assessment and intervention skills
- Experience working in an inpatient and/or outpatient mental health setting
- Experience with addictions, including concurrent disorders/motivational counseling
- Experience working with psychiatric patients, preferably community-based psychiatry, would be an asset
- Experience with trauma informed care
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high-quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
- Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
- Compliance with confidentiality requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Exceptional decision making and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of community resources available to patients with mental health concerns an asset
- Knowledge of policies, legislation, programs and issues related to addiction services, mental health services, social services, community services, and placement services relevant to adults
- Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing an asset
- CPI certification in NVCI preferred
- Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
- Access to a reliable car would be an asset for home visits, but not required
