Position Summary
As an integral member of the Patient Education and Engagement Program, the Patient Education Coordinator – Web Resources helps create a culture of health literacy, patient education and engagement by participating in the production cycle of electronic UHN patient education publications and resources. The Coordinator works closely with all members of the Patient Education and Engagement team and in partnership with clinical teams and health professions, building education and engagement best practices into daily operations at UHN through a focus on clear communication. The Coordinator is responsible for content staging for all UHN patient education electronic publications; acting as a communications consultant both for authors of patient education material and the internal and external needs of the Patient Education Program; maintaining Patient Education Program editorial policy and publishing procedures.
Duties
- Stage content for all UHN patient electronic education publications, using finalized content from the Health Communications Specialist and various subject-matter experts
- Build and/ or update clean, accessible HTML pages for the Health Information section of uhn.ca
- Provide expert consultation on clear communication for HTML patient education resources at UHN, including testing content and flagging errors
- Collaborate across hospital sites to identify shared education needs and opportunities
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies that support educational programs and projects across hospital sites
- Participate in resource development and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain Patient Education Program editorial policy and publishing procedures and ensures all content meets the highest standards for web accessibility and user-centred design
- Support additional tasks and special projects as assigned/ as time allows, including reviewing previously published content for quality improvements, mapping related links and videos to Health Topics pages, and preparing content for transition to a new platform in 2027
Qualifications
- Completion of post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree program in communications, web publishing, web content development, or other relevant discipline required.
- Proficiency in HTML and CSS
- Experience navigating and editing on Microsoft SharePoint or similar enterprise content management systems and familiarity with Microsoft 365 integrations (Power Automate, Lists, Document Libraries) as well as Microsoft Word, Teams, OneDrive and Outlook.
- Familiarity with principles of health literacy, accessibility, patient engagement, user centered design, inclusive language and patient education
- Outstanding communication (verbal & written), attention to detail, customer service and listening skills that demonstrate compassion, empathy and respect for colleagues, patients, and families
- Experience in a healthcare setting and working with interprofessional teams
- Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner
- Ability to identify connections across different hospitals and programs and meet multiple program needs simultaneously
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Familiarity with theories of health behavior, patient engagement, health literacy, plain language, adult learning theories preferred
