Position Summary

Cogito is Epic’s suite of data analytics and reporting tools. The Technical Specialist work closely with other Cogito Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst and Developer, Data Engineers, Clinical/SME teams and Other Epic Application Team, this position is responsible to create Epic Cogito reporting content, mainly focusing on integrating AI and cognitive computing models, customized dashboards, complex reporting workbench and SlicerDicer custom filters, based on end-user specifications.

This role will possess a diverse skill set including SQL, Epic Clarity database and Caboodle database, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a background in data & analytics within a hospital environment.

Here’s what you get to do

  • Work closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and end-users to understand the Cogito reporting content requirements, and analyze the needs of data consumers;
  • Lead complex Epic’s Cogito projects on the Data & Analytics roadmap
  • Build Epic’s Cogito reporting content (in SQL) using Epic’s reporting databases – Clarity and Caboodle;
  • Develop, test and validate AI and Cognitive Computing models into Epic reporting content;
  • Develop Cogito SlicerDicer custom filters and sessions using Epic’s Caboodle database;
  • Build Cogito Reporting workbench by building rules and PAFs
  • Develop custom Cogito radar dashboards and custom SQL reporting workbench
  • Review Epic upgrade and special update documentation and proceed with relevant Cogito build tasks;
  • Responsible all Cogito reporting content in Proof of Concept (POC), Testing (TST) and Production (PRD) environments;
  • Provide professional internal and client-facing documentation (SRS - System Requirement Specifications, PRD - Business Requirements Documentation, etc.);
  • Review peer reports for validity, accuracy and completeness;
  • Develop, modify and maintain the Epic Analytics Catalog and associated metadata records;
  • Design, implement, and maintain an enterprise-wide reporting security policy;
  • Assist and provide training to end-users
  • Resolve Epic reporting content and user access issues;
  • Develop alternative reporting solutions when Epic reporting tools cannot fulfill;

Qualifications

 

  • Undergraduate Degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics, or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum 5+ years of experience in building/developing, testing, and deployment of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics reporting tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of UHN’s system build, end user workflows, and patterns of use strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of clinical and business workflows and data in a Canadian healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of Ontario healthcare clinical and financial reporting requirements is required.
  • Familiarity with Epic application and database structure.
  • Experience working with the Epic EMR system.
  • Proficiency with SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience with analytics tools.
  • Ability to understand data structures.
  • Experience in a large IT clinical transformation within a healthcare setting.
  • Certification in Epic Cogito preferred;
