Position Summary
The Slaight Family Centre for Advanced MRI is seeking a motivated individual with solid expertise in neuroimaging to support the mission of this core research facility toward basic and translational MRI (including structural, functional, and spectroscopy elements). The aim of the program is to incorporate advanced imaging tools to address key diagnostic priorities in neurological disorders including dementia, movement disorders, pain, and epilepsy and to advance key imaging priorities in neuromodulation therapies. The program is also expanding into new use cases in cancer, vision, and neuropsychiatric disorders. In addition to a state-of-the-art 3T Siemen’s Prisma, there are cross-collaborations with other imaging modalities (0.5 MRI, MEG) and interventions (DBS, FUS).
Duties
The Staff Scientist collaborates with investigators in the following ways:
- Consults with PIs and senior trainees to provide expertise and guidance on image acquisition, design, implementation and analysis of neuroimaging protocols and data
- Introduces cutting-edge techniques to core facility users and provides technical support on their use
- Works closely with researchers and staff to ensure best practice is applied to projects
- Liaises with the MRI vendor (Siemens) for adoption of new sequences (e.g., WIPs, C2Ps)
- Manages core facility infrastructure (XNAT for data storage and transmission)
- Together with the program manager, liaise with medical imaging main research office at UHN
They may also play important roles in initiating scientific and technical collaborations with researchers across UHN and other TAHSN hospitals, and may develop and drive independent research projects.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A PhD in Physics or Computer Science or Biomedical Engineering, required
- At minimum, 3 - 5 years postgraduate experience in neuroimaging, preferably in multiple modalities, required
- Strong foundational knowledge and expertise in optimizing and implementing MR sequences, analysis pipelines
- A record of high achievement and methodological/technical contributions in MRI
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience with AI approaches to data analyses would be advantageous
