Hours: 18.75 hours Per Week
Shifts: Day/Evening/Weekend Shifts
Status: Temporary Part-time

Position Summary:
The Cancer Clinical Research Unit provides care for patients participating in and/or receiving treatment as part of clinical research studies at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Patients are seen in various locations throughout the hospital including outpatient clinics, outpatient treatment areas, and the short stay unit. The clinical extern will be working as part of a team in the capacity of an unregulated health care provider. Clinical externs work in collaboration with a unit under direct and/or indirect supervision of a Registered Health Professional in the care environment. 

Duties:

  • Liaising with point of care nurses to identify patient care needs
  • Acting as a resource to the interprofessional team where needed for patient care tasks, supplies, equipment, transportation
  • Assisting with patient positioning and transfers
  • Assisting with patient and family communication
  • Other duties as assigned to support the care team

Qualifications

  • Must be 16 years of age or older, per UHN policy
  • Must be a Nursing Student between 2nd and 4th year of a College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) approved Baccalaureate Nursing (BScN or BN) program
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required
  • Must be available a minimum of 18.75 hours per week, and have a flexible availability
