Position Summary
The Department of Medical Physics and the Radiation Medicine Program at the Princess Margaret (PM) Cancer Centre are seeking Medical Physicists to fill permanent fulltime positions. The successful candidates will become part of a team of 30 Medical Physicists, will participate in clinical activities and will be expected to contribute to innovative research, educational activities and clinical development projects. The position will be filled at the appropriate level (Medical Physicist or Senior Medical Physicist) based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and accomplishments.
The Department of Medical Physics supports staff professional and academic growth by providing access to research and development opportunities related to topics in a set of focus areas. Topics include process automation, data science, MR-guided external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy, dose accumulation, adaptive radiotherapy, radiation dosimetry, proton and particle therapy development and clinical implementation, theranostics, functional imaging for treatment response assessment and optical techniques and biophotonics in conjunction with radiation.
The department of Medical Physics is active in education and training of medical physicists through its CAMPEP-accredited residency program at the University of Toronto, Department of Radiation Oncology. The department also maintains a strong relationship with University of Toronto’s Department of Medical Biophysics through which it established a CAMPEP-accredited Ph.D. program, providing robust access to top-notch graduate students. The successful candidates will be encouraged and supported to secure an academic appointment at the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto. Cross appointment to other departments such as Medical Biophysics and Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto can be considered where appropriate.
Facility and Equipment
The PM is a world leading cancer centre with state-of-the-art imaging and radiation treatment equipment including four CT-simulators, two MR simulators, 11 C-arm linear accelerators (Elekta and Varian), two Gamma Knife units, a hybrid MR-guided brachy and external beam radiation therapy unit, an Elekta Unity MR-Linac, four Varian Ethos systems, and two HDR afterloaders (Elekta); RayStation is the core Treatment Planning System at PM for external beam whereas Ethos is the core adaptive CBCT-guided planning and delivery system. Oncentra Brachy and Oncentra Prostate are used for HDR brachytherapy, and Variseed for LDR brachytherapy. There are advanced clinical and research programs in IGRT, SBRT, brachytherapy (both HDR and LDR), adaptive planning and delivery, MR-guided planning and delivery, AI in treatment planning, radiomics, radiation physics and dosimetry, photonics, device development and translational research, with personalized radiotherapy approaches as well as a robust clinical trials program.

Qualifications
- The successful candidates hold a PhD degree in Medical Physics or related field, are CCPM eligible and have experience in advanced imaging, treatment planning and delivery technologies in external beam radiation therapy and/or brachytherapy.
- The candidates are a motivated self-starter wanting to make a difference, and a team player with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, eager to foster and develop their leadership skills and keen in participating in or leading clinical development and research.
- The individual has a sustained academic productivity as evidenced by publications, grants, book chapters and committee activity in professional and scientific societies (COMP, AAPM, ASTRO, ESTRO, etc).
