Position Summary
The QI review process provides a means for ethical review and risk mitigation for Quality Improvement projects across the organization. The Clinical Research Coordinator II works in conjunction with QI Project Team Leads, QIRC Chair, Bioethics, and leadership to plan, develop, lead, support and evaluate the QI Review Program across UHN. The position requires research and quality improvement design knowledge; the ability to work in complex, ambiguous and uncertain situations; the capability to manage multiple projects at a time and modify job responsibilities when required; collaborative decision making and change management skills; and the exercise of considerable judgement in conducting risk based review and triaging project-based recommendations for all QI submissions through the QIRC.
Duties
- Review UHN’s QI projects to determine alignment with Quality Improvement methods and flag any ethical risks or concerns to Committee Chairs (e.g., consent, privacy, security).
- Provide outreach, consultation and risk mitigation to staff, physicians, and learners across the network on issues of privacy, ethics, risk, and feasibility
- Grow and/or leverage mutual relationships with key stakeholders including REB, Privacy, Legal and operational and clinical leadership
- Develop and/or contribute to the development of QI resources, guidelines, and organizational policies
- Prepare and deliver presentations, resources, and other forms of communication for various internal and external stakeholders
- Identify, monitor and communicate outcomes and targets associated with process implementation
- Monitor email correspondence, create project related documents, assign reviews and critically appraise all submissions
- Contribute to weekly QI meetings and stakeholder consultation (e.g. agenda creation, minute taking, project presentation and scheduling meetings with multiple stakeholders)
- Retain complete documentation of QI requests, decisions, and follow up using SharePoint with a focus on continually improving workflow
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or recognized equivalent, in a health or science-related discipline
- 3-5 years research and/or quality improvement experience
- Demonstrated application of research and quality improvement knowledge, skills, and ethics
- Applied knowledge of research and legal regulations, guidelines and tools including TCPS2, PHIPA, ARECCI, etc.
- Knowledge of, and familiarity with, quality improvement methodologies and change management
- Works well with people from different disciplines and with varying levels of technical expertise
- Exercises considerable independent judgement and decision-making, using broadly defined policies, practices, and procedures, to resolve a variety of complex problems
- Develops and maintains tools to facilitate and enhance research and quality improvement task performance; contributes towards development of guidelines, procedures, and standards
- Demonstrates excellent competency in written, verbal and interpersonal communication.
- Excellent risk management skills: ability to anticipate and analyze risks and issues, explore alternatives, develop appropriate recommendations with clinical, research, operational and leadership teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize multiple conflicting priorities
