Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated AI/ML Software Engineer to lead the design and development of a next-generation Image Management System (IMS) for digital pathology. This platform will be built to operate in high-volume clinical environments and will be designed to integrate advanced AI algorithms developed within our Computational Pathology (CPath) program.
The successful candidate will play a key role in building a scalable, secure, and high-performance system comparable to leading platforms, with a strong emphasis on usability, interoperability, and AI deployment readiness.
Duties
- Design, develop, and maintain a scalable IMS for digital pathology workflows and contribute to system architecture decisions, documentation, and best practices.
- Implement efficient handling, storage, and streaming of whole slide images (WSIs).
- Develop backend and frontend components to support high-throughput clinical usage.
- Integrate AI models into the platform for inference, visualization, and workflow augmentation.
- Ensure system compliance with healthcare data privacy and security standards.
- Optimize system performance for large-scale image datasets and concurrent users.
- Collaborate with pathologists, researchers, and data scientists to refine system requirements.
- Implement APIs for interoperability with existing hospital systems (e.g., LIS, PACS).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++).
- Experience with web application development (e.g., React, Angular, or similar frameworks).
- Familiarity with backend frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask, Node.js).
- Experience working with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL).
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience handling large-scale image data or similar high-volume data systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
