Position Summary

The Director, Strategy & Transformation supports the Executive Vice-President, Clinical Support & Performance (CS&P) and plays a key role in advancing strategic initiatives across the portfolio and the broader University Health Network (UHN). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to enterprise-wide transformation and help shape the future of healthcare within a complex academic health system.

Duties

  • Oversee Real Estate & Capital Strategy (RECS) Committee reporting and Board/Committee updates, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant governance reporting and alignment with enterprise approval and risk requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison with Corporate Governance and Risk Management partners to ensure alignment with Board processes and enterprise risk frameworks, escalating and supporting resolution of emerging issues.
  • Lead the development and execution of the organization’s strategy management system, including the balanced scorecard framework, ensuring it is embedded and operationalized across the portfolio.
  • Partner closely with the EVP to define, translate, and execute portfolio priorities, ensuring clear timelines, deliverables, and performance expectations are implemented and actively monitored.
  • Lead the annual refresh and implementation of the CS&P portfolio strategic plan, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and execution across portfolios and operational partners.
  • Design, implement, and manage system-wide planning and execution processes, ensuring tracking mechanisms are in place to monitor progress and drive completion of strategic and special initiatives.
  • Develop, monitor, and actively use KPIs, dashboards, and scorecards to track performance, identify gaps, and support data-driven decision-making and corrective action.
  • Support and participate in key committees and working groups, including managing logistics, preparing materials, tracking actions, and representing the EVP as required.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to identify and actively manage risks, dependencies, and issues, ensuring timely escalation and resolution to support successful execution of initiatives.
  • Develop clear, concise executive-level presentations, reports, and materials to support both strategic decision-making and operational updates.
  • Translate health system trends and best practices in strategy, change management, and system transformation into actionable recommendations for the EVP and leadership team.
  • Support program development and lead implementation and change management activities to ensure initiatives are effectively executed, adopted, and sustained.
  • Provide coaching and day-to-day guidance to team members and contributors, supporting execution of deliverables and building capability in project delivery and change management.
  • Monitor and actively manage risks, performance, and emerging issues related to strategic plan execution, escalating and resolving issues impacting delivery.
  • Perform other duties consistent with a Director-level working role, including hands-on execution of priority initiatives as required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Health Administration or a recognized equivalent required.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare strategy, transformation, or management within a complex, matrixed environment.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a senior-level professional development, planning or project management role.
  • At least 7 years of management experience in a hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise or portfolio-level strategic planning and execution, including translating strategy into operational plans, managing implementation, and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Proven experience leading and delivering complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives end-to-end, with strong capability to remove barriers, resolve issues, and ensure successful execution (PMP certification considered an asset).
  • Experience partnering with senior executives, providing both strategic advice and active support in execution, including preparation of briefing materials, reports, and presentations for leadership and/or Board-level audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience developing, interpreting, and actively using data, KPIs, scorecards, and dashboards to monitor progress and drive action.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial planning processes, and resource allocation, with accountability for ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and actively manage strategic, operational, and reputational risks, including escalation and mitigation in real time.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, align, and mobilize stakeholders across all levels of a complex organization.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable insights for executive audiences.
  • Strong organizational and execution skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, drive timelines, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives with a strong focus on implementation, adoption, and sustained outcomes.
  • Sound judgment, political acuity, and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguity while maintaining focus on delivery and results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and related systems used for analysis, reporting, and execution tracking.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and effective collaboration within a diverse and inclusive environment.
