Position Summary

The Integrated Diagnostics Research Laboratory operates at the intersection of translational biomedical research, biomarker discovery, and AI-driven diagnostic innovation. The team collaborates with clinicians, scientists, and AI scientists/engineers to develop and implement cutting-edge assays and technologies that improve patient care and accelerate research breakthroughs in Diagnostics.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Research Technician III to support day-to-day lab research operations. The successful candidate will apply technical knowledge to perform laboratory procedures and experiments, interpret results, and help determine next experimental steps

This role is suited for a senior research technician who has experience with assay development and optimization, data management, and project coordination.

Duties

  • Perform laboratory procedures, including troubleshooting and optimizing protocols.
  • Participate in assay development and optimization, interpret results, and help in future planning.
  • Maintain accurate records; communicate findings through reports and discussions.
  • Coordinate and/or plan activities to support efficient lab function.
  • Provide input on purchases; support ordering and inventory management of lab supplies/equipment.
  • Support lab organization, safety practices and documentation.
  • Assist the PIs with budget management
  • Prepare reports and contribute communication with internal and external collaborators.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant life science discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a wet-lab research environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Hands-on experience with assay development and optimization an asset
  • Experience coordinating multiple research projects and working with trainees (students, staff) an asset
  • Experience with research administration essentials: ethics/regulatory documentation, data organization, and maintaining a safe working environment
  • Experience with budgets.
  • Experience working with internal/external collaborators
  • Demonstrated experience supporting biomarker-related experiments,
  • Hands-on expertise with antibody-based assays, especially, ELISAs, and proteomics-related workflows cell culture and tissue handling  an asset
  • Familiarity with UHN regulatory processes and internal research/compliance workflows (e.g., UHN-specific approvals, documentation pathways, and related institutional procedures) an asset
  • Prior experience with animal use handling may be required.
