    Shifts: Must be available Minimum 1 Shift per Week (7.5 Hours)
    Status: Temporary Part-Time (Contract End Date ~March 31, 2027)

    Anticipated Start Date: May 19, 2026

    Successful candidates must be available to attend orientation on Tuesday, May 19th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (virtual).

    Position Summary

    UHN is recruiting Respiratory Therapy (RT) Student Clinical Externs to work under the direct and/or indirect supervision of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to provide support to patient care. 

    The RT Student clinical extern will be working in the capacity as an unregulated health care provider. RT Student clinical externs work in collaboration with the clinical team under direct and/or indirect supervision of an appointed UHN RTs.

    Externs will be hired on contract, working a minimum of 7.5 hours per week. The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on department needs, supervising therapist availability and may include weekday or weekend shifts.

    Duties

    • Supports provision of quality RT services to patients at UHN within the framework of patient-centred care
    • Assists with care activities such as set up and support for the RT for:
      • endotracheal and tracheostomy tie changes
      • outpatient bronchoscopies
      • intubation preparation
      • ventilator and equipment transport
    • Cleans, checks, sets up and organizes equipment
    • Communicates effectively with members of the interprofessional team
    • Perform all other duties as required
    • Available to work at least one day per week until March 31, 2027.

    Qualifications

    • Must be a Respiratory Therapy Student in 2nd or 3rd year of training program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Respiratory Therapy Education, administered by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists
    • Previous hospital experience as an employee, learner or volunteer an asset
    • Previous experience in clinical placement an asset
    • Good problem solving skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Able to work independently and in a team
    • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job
