Wage Range: $63.05-$75.27 per hour (start rate in accordance with collective agreement)
Status: Temporary Part-Time (12 months)

Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner provides specialized clinical care and care coordination for adolescents and young adults (AYA, ages ~15–25) with Pediatric-type CNS tumors.  Working across multiple partner institutions, the NP collaborates with neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, radiation oncology, the AYA program, and supportive care teams, with a primary focus on patients requiring shared care with the neurosurgery team to ensure seamless, patient-centered care.

Duties

  • Provide comprehensive assessment, prescribe appropriate therapies, administer select treatments and follow-up for AYA NeuroOncology patients in the outpatient setting 
  • Conduct independent and collaborative visits for treatment planning, symptom management, and monitoring of disease or treatment related toxicities.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary pathways including neurosurgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and clinical trials 
  • Manage acute and chronic complications such as seizures, endocrine dysfunction, neurologic deficits, cognitive changes, fatigue, and psychosocial distress.
  • Support age-appropriate palliative care integration and advance care planning.
  • Serve as the central liaison across collaborating organizations (Hospital for Sick Children, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Kembil Brain Institute) to facilitate smooth transitions and coordinated communication.
  • Liaise with AYA program services such as social work, psychology, fertility specialists, rehabilitation, and vocational support.
  • Assist patients and families in navigating complex, multi-institutional treatment plans.
  • Maintain expertise in molecular diagnostics, targeted therapies, chemotherapy protocols, immunotherapy, precision medicine, and AYA survivorship.
  • Apply evidence-based practice to clinical care and patient education.
  • Participate in research initiatives, registries, and observational studies where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Current College of Nurses of Ontario Registration in the Extended Class (EC) as a NP required
  • Completion of a Master's degree required
  • Demonstrated expertise as a Nurse Practitioner preferred
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience; including three (3) years of experience working in neuro-oncology preferred
  • Certification in Oncology Nursing preferred or commitment to obtain certification when eligible.
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support required
  • Commitment to collaborative practice
  • Experience in nursing research methodology an asset
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
  • Evidence of professional malpractice insurance
  • Membership in the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) and other organizations relevant to the role preferred
  • Knowledge of data management programs an asset
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
