Position Summary
University Health Network (UHN) is seeking an outstanding, motivated professional to fill the key role of Postdoctoral Researcher in our Cardiology Department.

The Epelman Lab is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our laboratory to study mechanisms of cardiovascular disease using integrative mouse models of multi-morbidity. Our work employs genetically engineered mouse models, pharmacologic and surgical perturbations, and longitudinal phenotyping to interrogate disease initiation and progression at cellular, tissue, and systems levels. This position offers the opportunity to work at the interface of cardiovascular biology and immunology, with access to advanced in vivo models, flow cytometry and immune phenotyping platforms, and computational approaches for high-dimensional data analysis.

This role has direct mentorship and guidance in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and strategic career planning, opportunities for networking across regenerative medicine, cardiac biology, and stem cell engineering communities, Access to cutting-edge facilities and interdisciplinary collaborations within the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research, and potential involvement in entrepreneurship and technology translation through the ECHO Discovery Lab (https://tedrogersresearch.ca/echo-discovery/).

Duties

  • The successful candidate will lead projects examining how convergent risk factors, including chronic hypertension and viral or inflammatory insults, interact to drive cardiac injury, immune dysregulation, and progression to heart failure
  • Use immunological and genetic techniques to investigate the mechanisms of cardiovascular disease
  • Perform work in a containment level 2 facility
  • Assist in grant writing and progress reports
  • Review manuscripts
  • Supervise trainees

Qualifications

  • PhD received within the last 3 years in Biological Sciences with specialization in cardiology or immunology.
  • Strong expertise using vivo mouse models and molecular biology.
  • Additional experience in:
  • Flow cytometry and immunological assays.
  • Advanced microscopy techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Publications in high-quality journals required (minimum of one first-author primary research publication).
