Site: Princess Margaret Hospital  

Department: Supportive Care

Reports to: Clinical Manager, Supportive Care 

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Status: Full-time Temporary contract for 1 year

Shifts: Monday - Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm

As an integral member of the Cancer Rehab and Survivorship Program (CRS) and a Regulated Health Professional, the therapist filling this role will be responsible for the delivery of clinical programming and education related to rehabilitation from treatment for cancer. Primary involvement will be completing comprehensive assessments of new patients and providing follow up appointments based on patient needs.

The person filling this role would ideally have completed decongestive therapy (CDT/CLT) training and be able to provide CDT support to patients with lymphedema including education, compression therapy, bandaging and massage teaching.

Other duties include: using health coaching skills to improve adherence to patient goals; facilitating virtual lymphedema classes; monitoring/stocking/ordering of lymphedema supplies; discharge planning for patients upon program completion; liaising with community partners and updating community CDT and ADP lists; triaging referrals; completing documentation in a timely manner; quality assurance, administrative, and program related marketing activities; support with clinical research activities; teaching of learners/observers; liaising with members of the interdisciplinary team; and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Masters of Science degree in Occupational Therapy (MScOT), Masters of Science Degree in Physiotherapy (BScPT), or equivalent
  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario or College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario 
  • Membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association or Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists’ preferred
  • Previous experience in an acute care Hospital environment, preferred
    Minimal One (1) year related experience 
  • Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) Training strongly preferred
  • Experience working with patients with lymphedema
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Complies with the legislation outlined in the Regulated Health Professions Act, (1991)
  • Complies with the Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job
  • Demonstrates competence with departmental and hospital safety, emergency and infection control procedures
  • Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and to function in an independent, self-directed manner
  • Computer proficiency
