The PMCC at UHN invites applications for a full-time, permanent Senior Scientist (non-tenured research track) with an anticipated status-only academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant to Full Professor (or as appropriate). The successful candidate will lead a basic and translational research program in cardiac organ preservation and pre-transplant optimization, with emphases such as, but not limited to ischemia–reperfusion biology, sub-zero organ preservation and reanimation, ex vivo heart perfusion and functional testing, metabolic and immunologic reprogramming of donor hearts, multi-omics readouts, and data-driven viability prediction. We especially welcome applicants who build platforms that bridge laboratory discovery with clinical decision-making in heart transplantation, and who can collaborate with PMCC programs in surgery, organ transplant, anesthesia/critical care, imaging, and digital health. Duties

• Maintain and expand an original, competitive, independently funded research program of international calibre in cardiac organ preservation and ex vivo assessment.
• Develop and validate innovative experimental systems (e.g., hypothermic and normothermic machine perfusion, ischemia–reperfusion injury mitigation, metabolic/mitochondrial support, multi-omic and functional readouts) that inform pre-transplant decision-making.
• Build and lead a high-performing research team; mentor trainees at undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels with inclusive, equitable practices.
• Engage in collaborative translational science with cardiac surgery, anesthesia/critical care, perfusion, imaging, bioinformatics, and digital health groups across PMCC/UHN.
• Contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to academic service aligned with PMCC priorities.
• Compete successfully for peer-reviewed funding and foster industry/consortial partnerships; uphold rigorous open-science and responsible data stewardship.

• PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline with significant postdoctoral training and an established record of research excellence.
• Evidence of outstanding publications, successful research funding (peer-reviewed grants/fellowships), and impactful conference presentations.
• Technical depth in one or more of: ischemia–reperfusion injury mechanisms, ex vivo heart perfusion and functional testing, sub-zero storage, cardiac metabolism/immunology, systems or multi-omics readouts, or computational viability prediction.
• Demonstrated experience in team science with surgical/transplant programs or clinically oriented collaborations.
• Increasing leadership experience in overseeing a research team, including mentorship and inclusive lab culture.
