Position Summary
Within this position, the Postdoctoral Researcher will pursue research on gene editing of APP and other genes causing familial Alzheimer’s disease. The studies will include the design of components required for prime editing, as well as the development of efficient delivery methods. Apart from correcting disease-causing mutations, the potential of introducing protective mutations will be explored. These strategies will be evaluated on cellular and mouse disease models, in order to determine whether APP editing can reduce pathogenic effects caused by amyloid-beta. In addition to gene editing, the applicant will have the opportunity to be involved in ongoing projects, e.g. development of novel strategies for anti amyloid-beta immunotherapy.

Duties:

  • Conduct research on gene editing of APP and other genes causing familial Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Employ a range of molecular cloning and gene editing techniques.
  • Cell biological and histopathological techniques will be used to evaluate the gene therapeutic effects both ex vivo and in vivo. 
  • Will be involved in ongoing projects as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a PhD degree, obtained within the previous 5 years, in the field of biomedical sciences.
  • Previous experience of basic laboratory techniques, such as immunohistochemistry, western blot and cell culture work.
  • Previous experience in molecular cloning.
  • Previous experience related to gene editing is desired.
  • Previous experience involving laboratory mice is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to produce high quality work and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and use good judgment in assessing difficult situations.
