Position Summary
Guided by the Energy & Environment strategic plan, the Energy Manager champions an environmentally sensitive culture, including University Health Network’s values of Stewardship, Safety and Teamwork, through the development and implementation of initiatives related to energy efficiency, utility cost management, GHG emissions mitigation, and overall environmental sustainability. The role delivers energy management through the development and execution of projects as well as programs promoting sustainability, conservation and behavior change strategies across UHN.
Duties
- Champions an environmentally sensitive culture through innovation, new technologies and initiatives to minimize impact on global environment and lead the development of green healthcare.
- Develops, implements, manages and reviews short and long-term plans which are in alignment with UHN’s goals and strategies.
- Develops financial business cases for energy conservation and GHG mitigation projects
- Implements projects according to UHN’s project management processes, including design, review, construction, commissioning, handover and post project measurement & verification
- Obtains and leverages all available incentive and external funding opportunities for energy management, including federal and provincial greenhouse gas reduction programs
- Documents project outcomes using industry standard monitoring and verification approaches
- Reviews and analyzes UHN’s utility consumption and costs
- Monitors quality improvement outcomes on a regular basis; develops action plans to address identified issues.
- Contributes to corporate efforts and initiatives, as appropriate, to enhance UHN's mission, values and goals.
- Represents the unit/department internally on UHN committees, as required, and UHN in the external community at conferences, workshops, etc.
Qualifications
- At minimum, completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or recognized equivalent.
- P.Eng and Certified Energy Manager designations preferred
- At minimum, 8-10 years of related experience.
- Demonstrate understanding of hospital HVAC systems
- Documented successful utility cost mitigation projects
- Experience with developing and implementing energy management plans
- Ability to summarize and explain sustainability concepts for non-technical audiences at all levels
- Project management experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines
- Strong mathematic skills, with experience analyzing, reporting, and summarizing data
- Effective communication with senior level as well as front line staff
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments and sites
- Knowledge of industry trends, governmental regulations and sustainability best practices
- Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills
- Advanced data analysis skills in Microsoft Excel
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Solid web and social media strategy/implementation skills
- Advising on procurement and supply-chain projects
