Position Summary
The Princess Margaret Genomics Centre is seeking a full-time Research Technician II. As an integral member at the Genomics Centre, a UHN core facility, the Research Technician must be dedicated and results-driven and will be involved in all aspects of service projects, following SOPs and meeting target deadlines.

Duties
Working under the direction of senior staff, the successful applicant:

  • Will utilize standardized laboratory techniques and procedures in genomics and molecular biology applications.
  • Will perform experiments and analysis; communicate and maintain records of experimental data.
  • Will be a key member of a team focused on single nucleus genomics utilizing Multiome, ATAC, and 3' and 5' profiling assays from 10x Genomics. Assays require isolation and purification of nuclei from solid tissue or cell suspensions followed by specific assay workflows.

Qualifications

  • BSc in genomics, molecular biology or related discipline is required
  • 3 years related experience, required.
  • At least 2 years of experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques is required, such as:
    • PCR reaction set up and purification.
    • Nucleic acid quantification by spectrophotometry and fluorimetry.
    • Handling of single channel and multichannel pipettes.
    • Manual counting of cells and nuclei via cytometer.
  • A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies is required.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately under deadlines is required.
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented lab performance is required.
  • Experience with 10x Genomics assays including Multiome, ATAC, 3' and 5' is required.
  • Experience with nuclei extraction from fresh or frozen solid tissue and cells is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment is required.
  • Experience with using LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) is an asset.
  • Experience with Illumina DNA sequencing library construction workflows is an asset.
