Job Description

Position: Associate Professor
Status: Permanent Full-Time
Department: Respiratory Therapy
Site: The Michener Institute
Salary: $83,902.72 - $89,012.14 annually (salary placement will be in accordance with CBA language)
Hours: 35 hours weekly
Union: OPSEU Local 572

Position Summary:

  • Prepares, teaches assigned courses and laboratory/practical/simulation sessions as per Michener Course Management Policy
  • Must be willing to teach in all subject areas within the program
  • Must be committed to continuous quality improvement and professional development
  • Demonstrates flexibility in improving methods to engage and support students
  • Challenges thought processes, fosters collaboration, and develops the ability of students to engage in critical and rational thinking
  • Plays a role in all aspects of course/program assessment, evaluation and improvement
  • Fosters knowledge building and transfer including practical skills, methods and techniques
  • Supervises, provides guidance and advisement, where required, for student projects
  • Sets, marks, and assesses work and examinations and provides timely and constructive feedback to students
  • Determines and submit final course grades
  • Maintains identified office hours for student support in the areas of  advisement, learning plan development and documentation of student progress
  • Willingness to complete internal training programs as required
  • Participates in scholarship and research activity
  • Team player who works with colleagues, the the Academic Chair  and other support departments to ensure delivery of the best educational experience

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in Science, Health Science or relevant discipline; Master’s degree preferred
  • 3 – 5 years of demonstrated broad clinical experience and currency in Respiratory Therapy practice 
  • Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO)
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Openness and willingness to consider and implement new modes of pedagogy and innovative methods of teaching and learning.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing the quality of the post-secondary experience for students and faculty and staff.
  • Understanding and promotion of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion. The ideal candidate must be able to foster an open, sensitive and supportive environment where students feel valued and can voice their concerns.
  • Experience in the delivery of online learning is an asset
  • Proficiency with computer applications including word, excel, power point and online learning platforms
  • Satisfactory Canadian Police Clearance documents required upon hire
