Position Summary
UHN is looking for a skilled, dynamic, and motivated Manager to join our Medical Engineering Department. The Medical Engineering Department is an agile and vibrant team that is responsible for managing medical equipment and technology across all sites and programs of UHN.

The Manager is an integral member of the Medical Engineering Department, who is responsible for managing medical equipment and technology across multiple sites and programs of UHN. More specifically, this position is part of the leadership team and has a focus on the operational management of Department activities for electromedical and surgical equipment (and associated information systems) at TG and PM sites.

Duties

  • Leads team to ensure excellent day-to-day operational support for electromedical and surgical equipment (e.g., commissioning, unscheduled maintenance, preventive maintenance), which requires planning, organizing and directing staff activities;
  • Leads projects related to medical technology, including planning for, managing, designing, and participating in the implementation of new equipment and the scheduling of associated maintenance operations.
  • Collaborates with senior medical/nursing and other relevant personnel to meet current and future equipment-related needs and ensure safe and quality patient care (e.g., equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, incident investigations, capital planning, consultations, issue resolution);
  • Initiates and leads quality improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and ensure superior customer satisfaction, which requires developing and analyzing data from Department systems (e.g., Computerized Maintenance Management System) to support evidence-based decision-making;
  • Builds relationships with vendors/suppliers to facilitate and support planning, acquisitions, and escalation/resolution of issues;
  • Develops policies, procedures and processes for the Department relating to electromedical and surgical devices (and associated information systems);
  • Manages assigned staff and team's financial resources

Qualifications

  • Completion of recognized Masters degree in Clinical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering, or recognized equivalent required
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Ontario with the PEO required
  • Minimum of five (5) years related experience required
  • Experience working in a hospital environment required
  • Certification in Clinical Engineering preferred
  • Proven ability to build and lead a diverse and high-performing team
