Job Description
We are looking for an experienced distance instructor specializing in Social Sciences to join our Adjunct faculty team.
DISTANCE EDUCATION/INSTRUCTION
▪ Maintain a teaching load per semester, as assigned at the time of the
offer.
▪ Maintain and demonstrate subject matter expertise including distance
education [as assigned to online courses].
▪ Apply established teaching criteria and procedures and curriculum to
support student learning.
▪ Employ a diverse distance education teaching methodology to drive
continuous quality improvement.
▪ Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) as a tool to deliver
course content and provide formative feedback to learners
▪ Partner with program chair or program director to improve the design of
distance education environments.
LEARNER RETENTION
▪ Monitor/track student retention using course attendance records.
▪ Implement data-driven student retention improvement strategies to
achieve course benchmarks.
▪ Partner with the program chair or program director to improve the
design of distance education.
PROMOTE EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING
▪ Remain proficient in all aspects of course or curricula content, learning
outcomes, assessment activities to achieve course goals.
▪ Teach courses as assigned within the maximum number of contact hours
allowed
▪ Demonstrate skill and knowledge in teaching discipline
▪ Make continuous efforts to improve quality of instruction by reviewing and
utilizing different techniques including distance education in teaching
▪ Aid in planning, development, and maintenance of program curriculum
▪ Evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course goals; inform
students in a timely manner of their progress.
▪ Submit required program reports and forms to program or course managers in
a timely manner
▪ Maintain student records of attendance or skill competency documents as
needed.
▪ Partner with the program director or department chair to resolve student
appeals
▪ Attend faculty meetings at the cadence determined by the program director or
department chair
JOB DESCRIPTION
▪ Engage and document participation in professional development and in
service training for learning management systems, pedagogy, and
education teaching methodologies.
▪ Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students and the
community
▪ Maintain compliance with policies and procedures within the employee
handbook, program handbooks (as applicable) and department directives.
▪ Coordinate and balance the needs of a diverse student population.
Performance is evaluated in the following areas:
▪ Use of a Learning Management System (LMS) as a tool to deliver
course content and maintain relevance and currency.
▪ Use of course syllabi and instructional guidelines for assigned
courses
▪ Demonstration of distance education and/or on-ground teaching practices
▪ Demonstration of job knowledge and professional judgment
▪ Achievement of student satisfactory academic progress
▪ Proficiency in planning teaching priorities and deadlines
▪ Show initiative/dependability/reliability and remain a team player
Qualifications
▪ Must meet one of the following
o Graduation from an accredited program recognized by the U.S.
Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education
Accreditation (CHEA) in the specialty field or content area in which
they teach; or
o Graduation from an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g.,
hospital-based program) in the specialty field or content area in which
they teach; or
o Graduation from an institution located outside of the United States
and its territories in the specialty field or subject area in which they
teach. Transcript evaluation required by NACES or AICE.
▪ Meet the educational background requirements of the College
institutional accrediting body.
▪ A current license, certification or other credential if required by local,
state, or national institutional accrediting body to work in the field,
except for those teaching in non-core (e.g., general education) courses.
▪ Faculty assigned to Occupational Science Programs or Courses:
o i. 60 semester/90 quarter hours in total content.
o ii. 45 semester/67.5 quarter hours in the core area for which the degree
is awarded; and
o iii. 9 semester/13.5 quarter hours in general education courses.
▪ Faculty assigned to Associate of Applied Science Programs or Courses:
o i. 60 semester/90 quarter hours in total content.
o ii. 30 semester/45 quarter hours in the core area for which the degree
is awarded; and
o iii. 15 semester/22.5 quarter hours in general education courses.
▪ Faculty assigned to Master’s Degree Programs or Courses:
o i. Academic preparation in the specific courses being taught; must have
at least 15 semester credit hours or equivalent in the content area.
▪ Three (3) years of practical experience in the content area in which
assigned to teach.
