Unitek Learning is looking for a 100% remote Student Wellness Coach. Must live in Phoenix or Tucson, AZ area!
The Student Wellness Coach supports students who are at high risk of withdrawal due to personal reasons. Applying motivational interviewing techniques, the coach helps students identify the personal circumstances that are making school challenging, and coaches them to take actions that will improve their circumstances. The coach continuously identifies and builds relationships with resources within the student’s community and online, develops and presents webinars, and develops and distributes evergreen materials on health and wellness topics relevant to the student experience.
Please note: This role may require a flexible schedule that varies to include Saturdays and evening times to meet campus and department needs.
Job Description
- Receive referrals from staff and faculty, and proactively outreach to engage with students facing significant life challenges.
- Use motivational interviewing and coaching techniques to encourage students to improve their health, wellness, safety, financial security, self-efficacy, and resourcefulness.
- Create action plans with students, provide relevant and timely resources and timely follow up with students aimed at resolving personal life challenges that are interfering with success in school.
- Continuously identify and build relationships with local and online resources; work with campuses and marketing, and the Director of Student Services to promote these resources to the students.
- Utilize video conferencing, phone, email and text messages daily to collaborate with students.
- Collaborate with various departments to provide comprehensive wrap-around support.
- Be knowledge about programs, policy and procedure, and internal resources to provide accurate academic information to students as needed.
- Contribute to the overall strategy to improve outcomes for students mitigating personal life challenges.
- Participate in 1:1s and other meetings as required.
- Keep accurate records of work activity as required.
- Position must maintain active Mental Health First Aide Certificate while employed in the position.
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience doing client/clinical intake or coordination.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience leading the development of relationships with local community resources for referrals.
- Prefer active certification in Mental Health First Aide.
