United Collective is a privately owned holding company that operates a marketing and advertising agency, a youth sports business and a ready-to drink-cocktail company. The company is based in Huntington Beach, CA .
We are looking for an interim Controller with solid accounting skills to help us run our AIM sports business and our South Norte ready-to-drink cocktail business. Two separate businesses under one owner. The interim period is three to six months with an opportunity to become full-time. This is an entrepreneurial environment where you will be exposed to all financial aspects of the business. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and hit the ground running. You will need to pick things up quickly and move fast.
Job Description
The Controller is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations for the AIM and South Norte companies. The position reports to the CFO and supervises the AIM Accounting Manager and the South Norte Finance Manager. This is an in-office position in Huntington Beach, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain separate company books on QuickBooks
- Manage the monthly close for AIM and South Norte and develop detailed close schedules for each company
- Ensure that all balance sheets and subledgers are reconciled
- Ensure that proper controls are in place for paying vendors
- Ensure proper recording of employee benefit entries
- Oversee intercompany transactions
- Review bank reconciliations for all the companies
- Establish controls for handling cash and deposits
- Manage the revenue recognition process
- Prepare cash flow forecasts
- Ensure annual budgets are loaded into the accounting systems
- Ensure that payroll is processed properly through Paylocity
- Manage insurance policies for each company
- Mange banking relationships in cooperation with the CFO
- Manage fixed assets and leasehold improvements
- Ensure that quarterly sales and use tax returns are filed properly
- Manage the year end 1099 process
- Manage the 401k annual audit
- Provide financial schedules to auditors and tax preparers
Qualifications
- Five plus years accounting experience required in various industries
- Experience in a project accounting environment preferred
- Strong attention to detail is a must
- Ability to work with a broad range of people
- Ability to analyze and give recommendations on business operations
- Skilled at developing procedures and training staff to follow them
- Experience at managing and mentoring staff
