Job Description
The Financial Analyst will own financial analysis, long term projections, cash forecasting, and maintenance of all financial models. The Analyst will support the Director of Finance on aspects of financial management for Uncommon Schools including, but not limited to, providing strategic financial analysis and modeling, executing the annual budget process, and supporting school leaders and team leaders in managing budgets throughout the year. The Analyst will also work closely with other members of the Finance team to support team initiatives and projects, and reporting and compliance, as necessary.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead expert financial analysis, modeling, and reporting for multiple entities
- Create, maintain and update financial models with current and accurate financial information
- Critically assess model assumptions and scenarios, highlighting risks and mitigating factors
- Define metrics to monitor, predict, and influence the financial performance of schools, regions, and the home office
- Develop dynamic financial models to evaluate strategic initiatives and provide valuable insights and recommendations for senior leaders
- Review monthly financial reports and address trends and issues with budget managers and other leaders
- Create and deliver accurate financial reports to senior leaders, charter authorizers, state and federal agencies, and other external audiences as required
- Support budget development and management processes across the organization
- Lead budget meetings with budget managers and other leaders and report key takeaways to finance and operations leaders
- Gather data from internal and external stakeholders to develop centralized and/or standardized budget inputs
- Deliver financial management training and provide support to school leaders and budget managers to foster financial stewardship and fiscal responsibility throughout the organization
- Prepare budget summary materials for presentation to senior leaders, including variance analysis, identification of significant inputs and assumptions, and risk assessment
- Lead and/or participate in other special projects and requests, as needed
- Support the development and implementation of new financial systems to improve efficiency of service delivery at scale
- Lead or participate in cross-functional projects that drive organizational priorities
Qualifications
- 2-3 overall professional experience; 1-2 years of directly related experience
- BA in Finance or related field
- Strong understanding of finance principles, including GAAP accounting and financial modeling practices
- Ability to build and maintain systems that improve organizational efficiency
- Experience building and maintaining financial models
- High attention to detail and follow-through
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with ability to communicate financial data and principles clearly and concisely
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed.
- Ability to work well in a diverse team
- Strong digital literacy (MS Office, Outlook, Google suite), including advanced Excel skills

Compensation for this position: The starting compensation for this role based in NYC is between $74,000 to $87,000 and generally, we expect that qualified candidates in this location will be made an offer between $74,000 and $78,300. The starting pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, certification, and location. Because we value staff staying in their roles over time, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
