Job Description

Continuing Responsibilities from 0.5 FTE role

  • Fully embrace Uncommon’s project based learning instructional model
  • Provide professional development and feedback to project leaders on final task design
  • Provide ongoing observation and feedback rooted in the instructional framework to project leaders on daily instruction driving toward a final project
  • Collect regular data from the instructional rubric on project quality
  • Regular communication with internal and external project leaders to celebrate wins, reinforce expectations, and share the instructional focus
  • Host an inspection and attend two additional inspections at other campuses
  • Plan walkthroughs of projects with Home Office Experiential Learning team and school leaders throughout the year 
  • Attend regular cohort meetings and professional developments with other HS 2.0 Program Managers
  • Organize and run a student forum where students will learn about project options
  • Run a registration process that allows students to rank preferences for projects and place them into the appropriate class
  • Order, inventory, and maintain materials for all projects
  • Maintain and update the program budget to share updates with the Uncommon Finance team and funders
  • Recruit and hire any external experts needed to run particular projects
  • Manage onboarding of all categories of external partners (part-time employees and contingent workers) who will lead projects
  • Develop daily systems aligned with typical school operations (for example: collecting attendance, maintaining rosters, etc.
  • Plan and organize a school-wide showcase of projects 
  • Regularly communicate long-term and day-to-day HS 2.0 logistics with both school staff and external partners (schedule changes, calendars, students out of building on trips, etc.)
  • Act as the school-based champion for summer programs; ensure students are aware of opportunities available to them and submit high-quality applications 
  • Thoughtfully recruit students to attend outside-of-school programs and sector-specific career workshops sponsored by Uncommon
  • Maintain records including which projects were offered, the number of students interested, and the number of students who participated

Additional Responsibilities as a result of expanded role

  • Attend relevant IL observation and feedback professional development sessions
  • Teach one elective course 
  • Support students interested in leading a project to design a final task and to work with a faculty advisor
  • Provide ongoing professional development to project leaders using video and artifacts from high-quality projects across the network
  • Manage and budget for after-school clubs as an incubator for projects
  • Process all purchase orders and invoices on Workday to pay external partners for services and order materials for projects
  • Ensure competitive clubs are properly registered for competitions and have the appropriate travel and lodging (if needed)
  • Serve as the central point of contact at the school for community and external partnerships 
  • Maintain all technology in compliance with Data & IT recommendations
  • Advertise open internship opportunities through ongoing info sessions and application workshops
  • For flagship internships (example: Audible, Pison), manage the relationship between interns and employer
  • Provide individualized support to students who express a desire to explore their project topic further with an internship
  • Collaborate with other regional Program Managers to run cross-regional after-school programs
  • Envision and own operations of school-specific initiatives that support the vision of projects (i.e. job fair, junior internship, etc.)
  • Track and document narratives from projects, internships, summer programs, and other outside of school opportunities in which students engage
  • Host visits from funders and other external partners

Qualifications

  • Must have superior interpersonal skills
  • Ability to research and quickly develop knowledge of employer recruiting strategies, job market trends, occupational, career and personal growth.
  • Must be a self-starter and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently as a leader and as part of a team.
  • Strong relationship builder who will form bonds with students, school leaders, internship providers, funders and an internal team.

Education & Experience Required

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in a high school environment to understand the academic culture and must have the ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with corporate and nonprofit human resource management. Understanding of experiential education and career advising. Experience in presentation of workshops or public speaking.

Compensation for this position: The starting compensation for this role based in Camden is between $56,000 to $77,000.  The starting pay will depend on various factors that may include but are not limited to professional experience, education, training, certifications, tenure with Uncommon Schools, and work location.  Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.  Please note: ranges may differ for staff who work from a location other than Camden.
