Job Description

As a member of the Uncommon NYC Enrollment Team, this role is responsible for implementing our student recruitment and enrollment plan. This includes community outreach, family engagement & support, and collaborating closely with school staff. The person in this role will apply their expertise and experience to engage with external partners and families to build strong family demand for Uncommon NYC schools and convert interested families into enrolled families. This person must have experience implementing grassroots engagement strategies, establishing relationships with community members, using data to identify standard processes, and have an orientation toward collaborative planning.

Recruitment Project Management 

  • Assist with crafting and implementing student recruitment strategies to attract families to Uncommon NYC schools
  • Plan open houses, school tours, and other recruitment event strategies and partner with school teams to ensure outstanding execution
  • Progress monitor and provide updates to internal partners on project status, making adjustments and improvements as needed to meet goals

Direct Outreach & Engagement

  • Conduct traditional canvassing efforts to generate broader awareness of Uncommon NYC
  • Represent Uncommon NYC at community events, fairs, festivals, and other events that generate awareness and enroll families
  • Build and maintain a network of strategic relationships with community partners to increase awareness of Uncommon NYC and reach prospective families
  • Mobilize Uncommon NYC staff & families to reach prospective families through phone banking, canvassing, and other efforts
  • Engage prospective families to advise, build dedication, and ultimately enroll them via phone calls, SMS texting, emails, home visits, tours & events, etc. 

Research of New Canvassing Techniques 

  • Research and propose new practices and initiatives for canvassing and outreach
  • Collaborate with Sr. Manager to plan rollout and execution of new insights

 

 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelors Degree 
  • Must be fluent in English and Spanish
  • Shown experience in community outreach & engagement
  • Excellent organization, time management, and follow-through
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong digital literacy, especially with databases and google sheets
  • Experience serving as a liaison between multiple partners
  • Ability to maintain detailed records, complete vital reporting, and meet deadlines

Experience Required

  • 4-5 years of overall work experience 
  • 3-4 years of directly related experience

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 25lbs
  • Will be walking locally to support with outreach events
  • Prolong periods of sitting at a desk making phone calls 

Travel

  • Daily travel in and around the Brooklyn community
  • Travel to/from school sites on a regular basis
  • Working on evenings/weekends will be occasionally required
  • This role may sometimes work out of schools they are collaborating with; other times they may be in the field canvassing/doing outreach work. Otherwise, they may work from the Brooklyn Regional Office and will need to be in person 4 days a week.

Compensation for this position: The starting compensation for this role based in New York is between $57,800 to $68,000 and generally, we expect that qualified candidates in this location will be made an offer between $57,800 and $61,200. The starting pay will depend on a variety of factors that may include but are not limited to experience, education, training, certification, and location. Because we value staff staying in their roles over time, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
