Job Description

This role is responsible for leading and executing talent selection and outreach work for instructional hiring, school-based ops hiring, and other school support hiring (Dean of Students, Social Work, Behavior Specialist, Teacher Assistants, etc.) for 4 Boston schools. 

They will be responsible for developing and executing outreach strategies to source teachers, instructional leaders, Summer Teaching Fellows, school support staff, and operations staff. They will ensure a strong pipeline of candidates by managing relationships with key universities and organizations both locally and nationally (including HBCUs and HSIs); attending in-person and virtual career fairs and events; managing communications with key organizations and leveraging recruitment tools to headhunt and identify strong potential candidates.

They will ensure a strong candidate and leader experience by managing candidate communications and school leader relationships from initial application, interview scheduling, and through the offer process. They will manage a candidate funnel through an ATS and leader shared candidate tracking systems, facilitate effective leader and candidate communications, coordinate interviews, and support in-person interview events as needed.

This Talent Recruiter will manage full-cycle Outreach and Selection work in our Boston region.

Outreach Responsibilities: 

  • Implement on-campus and virtual recruitment events and initiatives (career fairs, information sessions, panels, professional learning, etc.)
  • Use recruitment tools (applicant tracking systems, resume databases, LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed, Handshake, spreadsheets, OneNote, etc) to source high-quality talent
  • Write creative and compelling communications to promote career opportunities to target audiences and move partners to action (professors, faculty, AmeriCorps staff, mission-aligned organizations, etc.)
  • Identify, establish, develop, and maintain strong relationships with local and national organizations that provide high quality and diverse talent for our schools
  • Strengthen communication and relationships with school leaders to assess short and long-term talent needs and trends
  • Collaborate with Outreach Team partners in other regions to brainstorm effective strategies for attracting quality candidates to Uncommon

Selection Responsibilities:

  • Manages candidate relationships and enthusiastically communicates the benefits of working at Uncommon. Cares deeply about and can articulate a thorough understanding of Uncommon’s mission and schools (our Boston Region in particular).
  • Manages school leader relationships and collaborates with the Regional Superintendent of Instruction and Regional Superintendent of Operations to lead regional hiring, and assess short and long-term talent needs and trends.
  • Assesses all candidates via application review and screening; identifies and engages with strong candidates whose experience aligns with the needs of the role and our schools.
  • Partners with school leaders to coordinate and run interview processes (in-person and virtual) with the goal of driving the selection process and ensuring candidates stay engaged and move through the application process efficiently.
  • Ensures accurate data in all of our recruitment systems; analyzes data to identify and address trends in real-time and refine outreach and selection strategies as needed.
  • Supports various Selection work streams across the team as needed
  • Collaborates with the Selection Team to continue to strengthen our hiring systems/processes, and to support hiring across Uncommon as needed.

  • Role may require some weekends

Preferred 

  • Experience with Recruitment Technology Systems
  • Experience with recruitment tools (Handshake, LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed)
  • Experience as a recruiter in another organization OR experience working in education
  • Experience in a people-related, customer service field (campus tour-guide; sales)

Experience

  • 2-4 years of experience (must have some professional experience - could be during college)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Physical Requirements 

  • Will be required to carry and set up large scale event and career fair backdrops and an assortment of recruitment collateral and swag. Will be provided with an additional carry-on suitcase specifically for Recruitment collateral
  • When carrying swag only, recruiter will be required to use public transportation. 
  • Set up for events in schools (requires some moving of furniture)
  • Will require the use of stairs if the school or event space doesn’t have an elevator

Compensation for this position: The starting compensation for this role based in Boston is between $65,300 to $76,800 and generally, we expect that qualified candidates in this location will be made an offer between $65,300 and $69,200. The starting pay will depend on various factors that may include but are not limited to professional experience, education, training, certifications, tenure with Uncommon Schools, and work location.  Because one of the things that we value is staff tenure in a role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.  Please note: ranges may differ for staff who work from a location other than Boston.
